Anyone else think this is one of the most powerful songs Pearl Jam,or anyone else, has ever written?I'm just listening to it now and I forgot how moving it can be.No matter what is going on in my life,a graduation,a birthday,a break up or anything else this song perfectly describes the mood.I really can't put it into words just how emotional listening to it makes me.

I'd love to hear what it means to everyone else.
It may be the devil or it may be the Lord

I agree. It was the first song of Pearl Jam's that really got my attention - the 'Dead Man Walking' soundtrack. The opening track of 'Touring band' is superb.
  • Yes, I love this song so much. However, I greatly prefer it live to the actual recording. It is such a beautiful song.
Exponentially serving. Perpetually unnerving. Vehicle swerving.

  • rollin round round round round. This song is incredible. That line really helps me appreciate the time I have spent with friends. It is better live. The most moving version (Eddie,Mike,Neil) can be found on youtube.

That version from Tribute To Heroes is pretty nice, specially the last part. Also the one with Michael Stipe on '01, I really like it.

I think it was an excellent choice for a song to open TB2K.

  • Seeing it as an opener in denver really made the show. It made me like the song even more! It is so powerful and deep!
If I had known then what I know now...
  • if you check the san diego boot from this years tour, ed explains where the song originates from. its quite a moving discussion. it relates to a former teacher who he knew.

I love this song so much !!
Best opener for me, so indeed, that's a good choice to open the touring band DVD.
The version on Dead Man walking soundtrack is incredible. And the other track with Ed on this soundtrack (the face of love) is awesome !

I agree - and there was a breeze blowing which just made for a nice visual as well. I have yet to have this as an opener...but I am hopeful I will one day :)

  • Absolutely one of the most moving songs ever written. When I heard that first chord ring loud and long at the beginning of the Cincinnati show this year I about lost my mind. I knew then that we were in for a hell of a night! I remember after the love of my life and I split ways, this song for some reason was the reason I held it all together. "All the memories going round, round, round, round. I have wished for so long. How I wish for you today"
    Great tune!
