Your most recent 10 "Desert Island Disc" list.

brianluxbrianlux Posts: 42,033
Have we done this before?  Of course we have!  But I like doing this every few years or so because a) tastes change and, b) new stuff gets added to the list.
No cheating!  Don't tell me it's impossible- 10 records is better than no records on your stay on a deserted island.  No "bonus" records.   No wimping out, lol!

So let's see do it again!

A few caveats on this one:
-"Best of/ Greatest Hits" albums are allowed, but no box sets.
-2LP/ 2CD sets count as one selection but only two out of your ten allowed.

Here's mine in alpha by artist/group:
1. Sandy Bull: E Pluribus Unum
2. Larry Coryell:  Coryell
3. Dinosaur Jr:  Farm (2 LP set)
4. The Dream Syndicate:  The Complete Live at Raji's (2 LP set)
5.  The Dream Syndicate:  How We Found Ourselves Everywhere
6. The Jimi Hendrix Experience:  Are You Experienced?
7. J Mascis:  Tied to a Star
8. The Replacements:  Let It Be
9. Neil Young:  Tonight's the Night
10. Neil Young and Crazy Horse:  Rust Never Sleeps

Haha!  Good points!  I use the term "desert Island disc" from years ago when Tower records used the term to publish musician's top 10 favorites.  Pre-Howard Stern!

And hey, thanks for playing!

Echo really is a great album!  And made during an incredibly had time in Petty's life.  Warren Zanes wrote about/ quotes T. P.  in his Petty-approved biography, Petty

"The only thing that stopped the pain [of depression] was drugs.  But it was stupid.  I'd never come up against anything that was bigger than me, something that I couldn't control.  But it starts running your life.  ... And Echo came in the middle of the mess.  I'm lucky I came through.  Not everyone does.  My therapist said something to me that, in the moment, cut through all the clutter.  'People in your level of depression don't live,  They  kill themselves or someone else.'  I said, 'Your kidding'. 'No,' he tells me, 'with this level of depression, people can't live.'  Maybe that was when I realized that in fact I wasn't living, that I was heading in the other direction."  (page 260)

Pretty amazing to have such a natural instinct toward music and some kind of hidden inner strength to push through and make such a great album despite all of that.  He had plenty of fame and money and could have just cruised, but instead, he kept working.

Thanks! I noticed you had Ideal Crash in your lost. Also a great album! One of the bands of which I blindly buy it's new albums. I wish they would release a live album.

In no particular order, and to clarify: I count double albums as 1, soundtracks and live albums count, but not greatest hits albums.

    U2 - Achtung! Baby
    Stone Temple Pilots - Purple
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

    Pearl Jam - Vitalogy
    The Verve - Urban Hymns
    Chris Cornell - Songbook

Didn't make the cut this week: Counting Crows - August & Everything After, Foo Fighters - Colour and the Shape, and 2 albums from each of 7 bands that did make the island.
