HELL YES it does my friend. I mean every version of this song attacks you, but yeah...there is something so delicate and extra special about this version. The crystal clear surround sound heaven...music and gorgeous vocals alike, it just sounds sooooooooooooo beautiful. When Ed hits the "beeeeeee" part in that place?!?! :o *chills* *heart sinks* The solo too?! How perfect does it sound?! Jesus!!! These acoustics really just take all the beauty to an even higher level. And then the CROWD?!?! *HUGE CHILLS* OH...MY..>LOOOOORD!!!! Seriously. Makes me tear up as well. "Just wow" is right. This is by far one of my fav versions of Black. It really is in a league all it's own though. Benaroya in general is imo. Some of the greatest, stand-out versions of just so many songs. This sound, feeling and energy from this show is for sure some one of a kind, extra special/intimate magic. :o

Excellent call Chaen. I'm right there with ya. :)

I love this version. I love how the crowd joins in with Ed. Black is such an emotional song. I get teary eyed every time I hear it. I love watching in on the MSG DVD. I love how Ed gets emotional. It is one of PJs most beautiful songs.

This performance made me cry the first time I heard it too. I think it was hearing the audience singing that did it.

with all the talk of Ottawa being one of the best blacks I think this one just fucking obliterates it, it's the best one I've heard

    its just a beautiful song
  • This is by far definetly the best version of Black. Ever. Every time I hear it I cry. And there was something in that moment when it was happening that you just knew it was something special. Ed was just so incredible that night and I remember after he finished singing him and Mike hugged for what seemed like at least a minute or two. I think it totally meant something to them as well. I can remember at the end just going crazy. It was just so surreal, insane, and beautiful.

Benaroya hands down one of the best PJ live moments I've witnessed.

  • I think there are few PJ fans who aren't moved by Black in some way. Was the first song I heard and for a long time my fav song of their's.
It holds a very special place in my heart. The song is so well suited to being played accoustically, I think that it is why the Benaroya version is so amazing and powerful.
