NEWS FLASH: Skate park submits grant package

#REPUBLICwa – A grant application for funds to build a #skatepark across from the Republic School has been submitted along with 51 letters of support.
Letters came from Boyds, Spokane, Wauconda, Curlew, Republic, Inchelium and Seattle. Among the letters supporting construction of the skate park were letters from the Confederated Colville Tribes and the Kalispel Tribe of Indians. “Getting today's youth off their devices and outside doing something active is very challenging. Skate parks seem to effectively do just that,” the letter from Mike Lithgow, information and outreach coordinator for the #Kalispel Tribe, said.
There were 21 letters received from kids aged five to 17. Four of those young letter writers won prizes for their contributions. Aurora Miller, 12, Republic; Jasmine Rivera, eighth grade, Curlew; Reese Titus, 11, Inchelium; and Kyle Jeremy Spence, 9, Wauconda each received a skateboard donated by #JeffAment of #MontanaPoolService and #PearlJam. The four winners and some runners-up also received safety helmets and pads donated by #blackmarketskateshop , #GrindlineSkateparks and 187 Killer Pads.
In a draft budget, the skate park is projected to cost $290,804. $261,723 will come from a grant with matching funds including $30,000 in land donated by Dave and Sue Betchart, $10,000 in the form of a cash pledge from Montana Pool Service and $1,000 in donated labor. #skateboard #skatelikeagirl #sk8erboi #tonyhawkfoundation
