Anyone know if ´Hold On´ has been played live - this is my favourite track off Lost Dogs and would love to get hold of a live version.

  • There is a "hold on" tagged on daughter in the Euro 2000 boots. Paris comes to mind. It is not the same song on Lost Dogs though.

  • This song is about a girl I dated my freshman year of high school. There was a girl I was dating previously, which was my first true love and two weeks after we broke up, I started talking more to this girl (I'd known her before) at band camp and sure enough we hit it off. The problem was I missed the other girl, and I didn't give the girl I was dating at the time enough love I guess you'd say. Today she's a totally different girl, having been through several relationships which all of them have changed her into someone I could never be with, but I always think to myself "What if I had given her everything I had?" Hence the term "Gave her love away, put it in my pocket when it should've been framed..."

Is this that really really really sad song? Lyrics anyone? There's a really really really sad song out there somewhere. (Sad is sad too, don't get me wrong.) I forget what it's called, I'm pretty sure this is it, though.

Yeah, this one is pretty depressing. Definitely one of the best off Lost Dogs. I just love the ending. The drums kick ass.

I couldn't find the lyrics on pearljam.net, but here they are:

    I was drawn...
    Riding atop a black horse.
    Whatever prize there was,...
    I could only observe...
    Where the trouble starts.
    Where does it end?
    How can I be cured,...
    How, before it ends?

I know... life would be different if I... held on. Held on.
I know... I could be something if I... held on.

    Gave her life away,...
Put it in my pocket when it shoulda been framed.
    Oh, I lost its shine.
Gotta get this outta my head,...
    Out of my bed!
    How could it end,...
    End like this?
    How could it end?

I know... life would be different had I... held on. Held on.
I know... I could be something had I... held on. Held on.
I know... I could be something if I... held on! Held on.
I know... life would be different if I... held on! Held on!

Held on. Held on. If I...
Held on. Held on. If I...
Held on. Held on. If I...
    Held on. Held on.

You know I think there's a sadder song. Anyone know of a really really really sad song or Pearl Jam's?

Either Lost Dogs or the studio albums after No Code. The titles and lyrics seem to blur for me on most of them EXCEPT Riot Act. I think I have that one, well maybe. So, what are sad songs from

    Lost Dogs
    Yield
    Biaural (sp?)

I wished I remembered this song. I posted it on this forum, so I'll do a search, too.

Found it - it's SAD, boy do I feel silly. I found my original post when I finally figured out the words. I searched under the word "SAD" in the search for the forum, and searched for my post.

Man, Light Years, seems pretty sad, too.

Light Years holds a dear spot for me. I relate a lot to having lost someone who affected so many people in a positive way. Someone who really seemed to shine at all times ("your light made us stars").....It is definitely sad, reminding us never to take anyone we love for granted, however it also comes as a happy song in the way that it really memorializes that someone who you may have lost.

In Hiding....man, there's an emotional song. Been there, alot of us have.

Binaural, as a whole is more of a down album to me. Not just sad, but also angry, and nearly has a hopelessness to it.

    In Hiding

I shut and locked the front door
    No way in or out
I turned and walked the hallway
    And pulled the curtains down
I knelt and emptied the mouth of every club around
    But nothing's sound, nothing's sound

I'd stay but my last tab left me
    Ignored all my rounds
Soon I was seeing visions and cracks along the walls
    They were upside down

I swallow my words to keep from lying
I swallow my face just to keep from biting, I, I..
I swallowed my breath and went deep, I was diving, diving
I surfaced when all of my pen wasn't writing

    I'm in hiding
    I'm in hiding
    I'm in hiding
    I'm in hiding

It's been about three days now
    Since I've been aground
No longer overwhelmed and it seems so simple now
It's funny when things change so much
    It's all state of mind

I swallowed my words to keep from lying
I swallowed my face just to keep from biting I, I...
I swallowed my breath and went deep, I was diving, I was diving
I surfaced and all around me was enlightened
    Now I'm in hiding
    I'm in hiding
    I'm in hiding
    I'm in hiding

    I'm in hiding
    I'm in hiding
    I'm in hiding
    I'm in hiding

The protagonist resurfaced, though. What's missing in many recovery (recovery from event/element/?) is the struggle. Here it is, it seems. I think I'll have to look at Light Years.
