Just thought if the song "i am mine" deserve a thread then this equally amazing song deserves one too,

The sound of the song is awful like "love will tear us apart"-joy division, whihc isnt really a bad thing

the lyrics also are so amazing...

thoughts on the song?

    I like your "love will tear us apart" comparison. Yeah, Thumbing My Way definitely digs deep...it does tear me apart, but at the same time there is so much hidden hope. I love that! As I always like to say, it's "takes a sad song and makes it better". :) Eddie is really pouring it out full force on this one and I seriously have to question wether or not those that don't feel it have a heart. I mean really!

    MUCH LOVE for this gorgeous beauty. The lyrics are indeed jaw-droppingly beautiful and the pleading, broken emotion behind Ed's voice just makes me wanna hug the hell outta him. It's deep, demands to be felt...and boy do I feel it. :o GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS song.

    I never liked this song much at first, but then it grew on me and now I love it!
    Ed always looks so vulnerable when he sings it.

    Yeah I can't understand all the negativity for Riot Act. I love it. Ok it's not my fav album, nothing can topple Versus for me, but's it's definitely a great album.

    For me, personally, I think it's one of the most unbelievably well written songs. The metaphors used throughout it are to be cherished. Nobody writes metaphorically anymore and this piece is definatly one of the best!

    Thumbing My Way is definately one of my favourites and Riot Act doesn't get as much credit as it rightfully deserves. The creativity on the album blows me away each listen.

    i love thumbing my way, i gotta have it played at my funeral.its a long way away yet i hope! i got a love for riot act thread on the porch please support it and show your love for the songs, i cant think of an album that hit me more than riot act, Thumbing my way is a song that really makes you think, at first it got me really depressed but now it makes things seem so much better. i even bought a small guitar just so i can play it, its really hard to play the bridge on a proper 24 fret size guitar.

    I love this song...as you can tell by my name!!! LOL..i think personally that it's the best written Pearl Jam song..."no matter how cold the winter, there's a spring time ahead" i live by that...i can't say enough about this song and how beautiful it is. It's like Eddie's or the band's philosphy on life!!

    Have to admit my interest in Pearl Jam wained a bit throughout the past six years or so, then I decided to shell out dough to go see them in Hamilton, Ontario at Copps. Something really happened to me, the connection ran true again, especially when Eddie sang Thumbing my way. I was caught in a trance, a torrent of emotion rising to the surface, a junkie getting his fix on. Long live PJ

    First off I loooooove loooooove loooooove this song (and Riot Act). This song gives me chills everytime I hear it, its just so hard not to be moved by it. Favourite line "All the rusted signs, we ignore throughout our lives, choosing the shiney ones instead......" Probably my favourite Pearl Jam Lyric (with some I am Mine lyrics running close behind).

    thumbing my way to me always was the meaning of going back to the ten era when this band went worldwide had awesome performances on snl mtv etc
    and the music was right in my face

    I am so glad to see this post! I have been ADDICTED to this song lately.. Can't seem to get enough of it! I have not been on this board for a LONG time, and I decided to come back and make a post about TMW... seeing what everyone else thinks of this song.... So happy to see it has already been done..... so glad I am not alone in my addiction!

    I remember awhile ago someone posted on this board that Eddie gave him a copy of the original hand written lyrics, he said it was about someone who was gay and had AIDS, and died. Very powerful. Wonder if it's really true. He may of been related to the guy, I forget all the details. The original lyrics were slightly different. The finished lyrics seem to make the song more open to interpretation.

    it´s great song, eddie´s voice is perfect in this song and i love the main part of the song (how do you say it?) you understand.. it´s my favourite from riot act like all or none
