For Backspacer, I love Got Some and Force of Nature. Just Breathe and The End are solid too.

Not as funny as PT winning No Code
2 of my all time favorite PJ songs. PT is actually my favorite PJ song. To each, their own.

    and Marker is fucking great.
Do you think your love for PT is influenced by its live versions? I think it’s pretty meh on the album but it would rise to the top if I solely based my ranking on many of the bootleg performances.
Sorry--just now seeing this. PT hit me like a ton of bricks when I first heard it on the album. The lyrics and jam at the end are perfect to my ears. But, I get it...we all have different tastes & that's more than cool.
    I LOVE MUSIC.

It's a great song on the album and even better live, I have no idea how some people think it's not good on the album.

And when I say “meh” for the studio version of PT, it’s by Pearl Jam’s standards... a solid tune, regardless.

Well average songs just dont become great live, it's not how it works. Saying a song is better live than on the album is fine but, 99% of the time it's a bad song that's getting that tag. Present Tense is a very good to great song and that's why it's amazing live.

I guess I feel that Pearl Jam’s songs have more passion (I really feel this way about PT - and Release and Immortality) when I listen to particular live renditions. The production of some of their studio recordings doesn’t exude the emotion that an in-the-moment performance exudes.

And that's fine and to some extent true but, those 3 songs were heard first by the buying public on the album before again 99% of the fanbase saw them live. They fell in love with the song from the album because their great songs pure and simple. Now if you want to say you're sick of hearing them well that's another debate.

To follow up the last point being of course there's going to be more passion when you see or hear the song live cause' their performing it but, if anything the biggest reason why those songs stand out over other songs on their respective  albums is the undeniable passion they were recorded with. Jesus Release is a torturous experience by Eddie especially through headphones.

I guess that's just it. I didn't fall in love with the songs from the album. Songs like Release and Present Tense (and Parting Ways ... and Off He Goes ...) didn't resonate with me when I heard them on their respective albums. I guess you could argue that I wasn't as big as a PJ fan as I am now until I heard their bootlegs. I mean, I've always loved "Alive," "Black," and most of Vs, Vitalogy, and Yield (notice that I haven't mentioned any of their songs) but the most of the rest "came to me" once I heard the live stuff.

I suppose we could debate this all night. :-)

And that's beyond cool that that's your experience of how these songs came to you but, I would definitely say it's backwards to how most people fell in love we these songs.
