The weight of my adoration

The burden of my affection

So selfish, these two I share

Inhale your love

Exhale my whine

(the faintest whisper I me me mine)

I’ve heard that with age comes wisdom

(though in my case that jury’s still out)

Apathy dropped by just briefly to shout,

“You’ve not any wit to spare”

Soon all that will remain - these words and their pain

So selfish, these too I share

fuck 'em if they can't take a joke

"what a long, strange trip it's been"

We're all selfish; it's part of being human.

What you wrote reminded me of this - H, by Tool (also my husband's and my song):

    Without the skin
    Beneath the storm
    Under these tears
    The walls came down
And the snake is drowned and
As I look in his eyes
    My fear begins to fade
    Recalling all of those times
    I could have cried then
    I should have cried then
And as the walls come down and
As I look in your eyes
    My fear begins to fade
    Recalling all of the times
    I have died
    And will die
    It's all right
    I don't mind

I am too connected to you to
    Slip away, to fade away
Days away I still feel you
    Touching me, changing me
    And considerately killing me

This is great, thanks for sharing!
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

hello fellow hedonist, Brian  I wrote this for some dear friends one of whom has since died. I made a few adjustments  I will note the only wisdom that has come with my age is the realization of how much of my life was spent self-absorbed and unaware so I guess I'm waking up a little
