The vocal recording on Gigaton (vs Backspacer)

It sounds like they have recorded Eddie differently this time around.
I've always said that Backspacer sounds like they recorded a person with the worst cold in his life on the most compressed talk-radio mic around. It's harsh and at least to me sounds very compressed and with a lack of nuance and room.

Gigaton sounds - to my untrained ears and only using Spotify right now for listening - a lot more natural and harmonic. You eardrums doesn't get sharply attacked by every word.

Have you given the vocal recording any thought?

Riot Act always sounded "head cold" like on a few songs. Like wow did his voice get deeper or is the mix? Avocado will never be source material for any kind of sound quality. Gigaton just sounds terrific for everything.
Anyways - Brendans style on Backspacer VS Gigaton
