Favourite moment of the album so far?

One of the best things about Gigaton coming out now is that my ears (and those of my family) will get a rest from Fear Inoculum haha. I remember thinking that my favourite bit on that album is when the drums kick back in on Pneuma. Just gargantuan awesomeness. Totally different kettle of fish, but the end of Retrograde and its soaring highs is a standout for me. Goosebump inducing. There are other moments on Gigaton of course, like Mike's guitar funk bits coming in on Dance, or the intense lull of the verse in Alright, but yeah the end of Retrograde sticks out to me. Since we're all just discovering this album and all of its goodies thought it'd be cool to ask everyone what small bits of the album stand out to them. We could then listen out and get excited all over again, and connecting those bits to others could help us affirm that what we think we are hearing is a really fucking good album. Thoughts?

Favorite moment is the three song set from Quick Escape to seven o’clock.  Hooked on those right now.  What’s great about this album is that I’ll get obsessed with other song later

Second half of Whoever Said when Ed starts up “one bad ear and one eye blind” and he and Matt start building faster and faster to the finish

I'm thinking this would make a great closer before the encore...or perhaps an opener?
  • The way the second verse comes in on Seven O’Clock after that gorgeous, atmospheric guitar break.   Eargasms.

Alright - the ringing guitar strums in the second verse that are, to me, an obvious call-back to the production of Ten (think that album’s intro specifically)

Take the Long Way - Stone’s cool Big Muff-effected guitar flourishes

Buckle Up - Stone’s effected backups that take on the sound of a kazoo or trombone. Love this part. Brings to mind Broken Social Scene a bit.

River Cross - Ed’s vocals at the end

The bass and drums throughout the whole damn thing.

The riff of Never Destination.  It reminds me of a song... can’t place it. But it will be an awesome song live.

Nope. But one day I’ll hear this other song and it’ll click. It’s for sure coincidental... just a great riff.

It’s gotta be the the production sound in the perfectly recorded “comes then goes.”

Totally agree!  "Comes Then Goes" has a simple but brilliant mix.

There are myriad but right now I'm digging down the two little breakdowns in the final two minutes of Never Destination, the way things kind of quiet down for a tick.

    Phenomenal.
I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched. I died and you walked by and said no. I'm dead.
  • My top 5:

    1. The bite of Eddie's first lyrics sung on "Who Ever Said"
    2. The "ambient" parts of Seven O'Clock where it sounds like a song off "The Division Bell"
    3. Quick Escape - Eddie's vocal melody and Stone and Mike's solos
    4. "Take The Long Way" the guitar solo and the beautiful almost-prog rock harmonies of the last 30 seconds
    5. Retrograde's ending

The sonic intros/outros with the sounds and layers giving the album life and making it less stale so to speak. Plus Quick Escape
