I saw 'em in 1992 at The Limelight in NYC, 950 people in that little freaky church/club, then again that summer on Lolla' (with Soundgarden, we all hoped but it never happened, just the once in Irvine, I think) after that, they moved to huge arenas and the ticketmaster debacle, I thought I lost my band to the Arena crowds, so I didn't see 'em again until 2003. That's 11 years without a live show...*hangs his head in shame*...i actually missed the No Code and Yield Tours...never again..got my floor tix for Philly
  • so what were they like live?????
p/s just bought riot act, only one left is binaural, (plus live discs)
  • They're really amazing live; I only went to one show but I'm pretty positive all the other shows are just like them. The fans are unbelievably hyped up about them which is the best thing; one sight of the band and it's just absolutely crazy in the stadium. They started off with Release and then went to some faster paced songs, and the atmosphere was electric. It was especially weird when I saw Green Day the other night because they're extremely into pyrotechnics and hyping the crowd up and they have these massive backdrops; completely the opposite of Pearl Jam in a way. The band is right down to business and they plays tons of songs. I really appreciated how talented they are with their solos. But it was just amazing really; something I had always dreamed about. The crowd doesn't need the fireworks or anything to get them worked up because they're crazy from the very start to the very end. The band's sound quality is unbelievable, and they match their music very well with the lighting. I can't really think of much else; just get your butt down to the next show possible! ;)

All the times I saw the band they have always been a really good live act that really tries to connect with the crowd. A lot of other bands can take a few lessons from Pearl Jam.

snowman i'm SO sorry you missed the show in Hali. I'm sure if you would have gone to the Metro Centre you could have scored a ticket...a friend of mine did (although he had to pay $175/ticket). I suppose this is easy for me to say since i had a ticket, but having missed the band in Montreal on several occasions by a day or two, i really feel your pain.

it was my first PJ show and i have to say that out of all the concerts i've been to over the years, i think i really enjoy the 'stripped-down, no pyrotechnics, just the band, some equipment and some lights' set up that they had. it was intimate (despite the crowd of 9,000+) and the sound was incredible. i don't know how they managed to play for as long as they did, and with so much energy, considering this show was nearing the end of their canadian tour. they can still rock the house and rock it hard!

i would suggest that you get the bootleg of the show and go to the Halifax fanviews thread to look at the picture links. it won't be the same as going to the show, but you'll get the general picture. My seats weren't so great, so i missed out on a lot of what was going on down on the stage, so as soon as i got the bootleg, i put it on really loud and started looking at the photos (wow...who knew that Eddie had put the beer can on his head??) The sound quality on the bootleg is impeccable! makes me feel like i'm back at the MC.

i hope that they return to the Maritimes (maybe play somewhere in NB????) someday and you're able to get tickets to catch them live.
    i. am. mine.
