Lost Dogs

I was driving to the Toronto Show listening to disc 1 of Lost Dogs. When I pulled by the ACC, I had to roll the windows down and blast the stereo....I think the song was Black Red Yellow. Kids walking by immediately knew the song and started cheering.

Made me think...How powerfull is Pearl Jam to have a B sides disk be so well received.

To Me Lost Dogs was an absolute gift. I listen to it more than Riot Act and Binaural combined.

Part of me wishes that Fatal, Sad and Hitchhiker were never cut from Binaural, and that they would have left off Thin Air, Light Years and Evacuation. Binaural would have been stellar instead of mediocre.

Or imagine, No Code with All Night instead of I'm Open.

Or Riot Act with Down and Undone, instead of Help Help and Arc

Or even Vs with Hard to IMagine on it. (no song to eliminate there!!)

Then I think, I loved those albums anyway (save Binaural) and how Lost Dogs itself was so strong because of those songs.

  • Lost Dogs was fucking awesome. But I have to disagree on one thing...I LOVE LIGHT YEARS!!! How could you not like it? Or even Binaural?!! But yeah, I do agree, I don't understand why some of those songs were cut from the albums. VS. would have been fucking amazing had they included Hard to Imagine and Alone (Not that it already isn't fucking amazing though).

"Hold On" is another amazing track that should have made it on the final cut for Versus. It's an amazing album and the first thing that came to my mind after my first listen through of the album was "man that was amazing and way too short". I was dissapointed when it was all over. I wanted more.

I honestly believe that Arc is a tribute to the 9 lost at Roskilde. The band wanted to remember them in some way, so they put that on there. LBC is also more of a song-type tribute and not just the moaning that you hear on Arc.

I agree about Arc. Actually I read on some other thread anout Arc as the album starter - that would have been good.

Light Years, I tried and tried but that song bores me to tears. Same with Thin Air. For me, these two songs slow down and make Binaural boring. HOWEVER, if songs like Greivance, breakerfall, Of the girl and Insignificance were paired with Fatal, Sad and Hitchhiker, man o man

That's not the point. Lost Dogs was a gift of huge proportions

I love Arc (I want to get a decent mobile phone that plays MP3s so I can have it as my ringtone=D). Whenever they bring out a new album I always look forward to their quirky song.....Bugs/Foxymophandlemomma (maybe not Foxy so much), Soon forget, Master/slave etc. I can't honestly say that I would change a playlist of any of their albums, then we wouldn't've got Lost Dogs would we? Well, we might have, but it would have been with the ones you guys would've left off the other albums....I'm open, light years etc. And if that was the case, would you guys rave as much about Lost Dogs now if it had I'm open, light years etc as the b-sides?

I have to agree. I love that one
"Bombs dropping down. Please forgive our hometown"
  • i'm listening to lost dogs right now (drifting at this moment) and its just unbelieveable

i do not know any other band that has so many of their best songs as b-sides (but in most cass i think they are good b-sides, or with other words, the albums are perfect, except, of course, down instead of help help and fatal instead of evacuation)

and nothing against light years...its the song that made me a pearl jam fan

Yeah Wishlist really slows down and makes YIELD boring. Oh, and Black really fucks up Ten. C'mon you gotta have some slow stuff in there. The albums are out how the band wanted them. Accept it and listen to Lost Dogs if you like some of those songs better.
No longer overwhelmed it seems so simple now.
  • I could never pick any songs to be left off of their albums.
I think they should always keep everything on, and only put out double albums, or....
    albums and a half!
Just to keep all of the songs they've written in there. :D
Even Foxy Mop has its place, don't really care for it myself, but it wouldn't be Vitalogy without it.

Lost Dogs is such a gift for everyone. I've always wondered what it would be like to lock up in that room filled with all of the different versions of songs, and recordings that are photographed in the middle of the sleeve.

    I know.....:::bliss~~~~~

I was rather upset by the release of lost dogs. Back home (south africa) Pearl Jam is hard to come by asside from the albums, I't took me years to collect all of the trax on lost dogs only to find the complete collection on one release some time later.

On the other hand, from a content point of view the album was great. asside from Last Kiss everything was cool, I think that it could have been replaced with a number of way better trax.

I have recently been listening to this album a lot.

""Down", "In The Moonlight", Hold On", "Other Side", "Drifting", "Brother"... excellent.

  • Honestly I'm not that thrilled with it. These songs definitely sound like b-sides to me. I love their albums how they are. "Dirty Frank" "Sweet Lew" and "Bee Girl" are to me the worst songs they have.
