DRUMMERS - which PJ drum kit did you like the sound of best?

Although I have a preference for Dave on a lot of the earlier stuff, I LOVE the toms on Matt's kit. Particularly on songs like Grievance and LBC.

Matt's toms even look a little shallower than on my kit - which I would die for, since mine rub against the bass drum to get them low.

But I do wish Dave would try out a nice china cymbal.

Any thoughts?
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

  • My thoughts exactly as above. I used to, and still do, like Dave's work with using as many cymbols as possible, and at all times making it blend in with the song really well. Yet, if you check out some vids of Dave playing, he doesn't look like he's trying hard to make it sound good at all, his facial expressions usually stay the same, while his arm goes 100 mile an hour. Whereas you watch Matt, and he looks like he's trying the whole song, though his drumming still is quite effective..
  • I think Matt is far and away their best drummer, but I really love the way Jack sounded. It was so lively and free.

  • best sounding kit for me is always going to be jack
i love the way he makes it sound, so distinct.. given to fly does it for me especially the toms and and deep loud snare (i absolutely love that sound)
although people may say dave a and matt are the best pj drummers i dont think either of them has a more unique sound than jack

i mean he used a trash can lid for christ sakes :D

matt uses the keplinger snare made by greg keplinger. one of the nicest sounding snares i've heard since bonham and copeland. p.s. i love the toms in grievance too!

I really like the way Matt's kit sounded on the last two albums. I love his snare it gets such a good sound. However, some of the cymbals he was using on the '00 tour just sounded terrible (at least on the boots). They sounded to trashy (which is not bad in general, just in the context).
