Different Lyrics?

I just came across a 1992 Ten Songbook/Lyrics/tab book and it's bugging me that some of the words for Black are different in the songbook than on the PJ website...when did these changes take place? Anybody know the history? Here's an example of what's in the book:

Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay,
Her legs spread out before me, as her body was there
Woh, all five horizons, revolved around the sun
I see earth through the sun.

What's on the PJ Song version (on the website):

Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did
All five horizons revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun.

This happens all through out the song.

I gotta say I've never heard the first version you put up. But I can see how it might sound hes saying that. So I bet whoever wrote that tab book/song book just misheard the lyrics. But im very sure that its the latter of those two thats correct.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too, but then I thought that maybe the lyrics were changed somewhere along the way, as the first version sounds right when you listen to the CD. When I have a chance, I'll post the rest of the lyrics that were in the songbook and see what you and others think. This songbook is supposed to be "authentic". It's trasncribed by Jim Quinn and Andy Robyns.

That tab book is full of mistakes, even alot of the tab in it is wrong

the lyrics from PJ.com are the real ones (of course)

the reason why the lyrics are different from your tab book is because from the original "ten" album booklet the lyrics are incomplete. they look something like this:

Sheets................................clay
laid spread out................once did (etc)

so basically the writer of the tab book probably just deciphered the lyrics on their own. which of course made them wrong.

Yeah, I figured it was a mistake in the tab book...I suppose I was looking for some sort of mysterious history behind the changing of the words...oh well. Thanks for clearing things up!

yeah i have that book too. Its all messed up. but you gotta remember that it came out in the early 90's when nobody really knew what the hell was said in the PJ songs. there were no real interent sites, bootlegs, etc where you can actually discuss it and listen more carefully.
