...to any discussion concerning Given to Fly... or perhaps even bump the thread so I can take a look at what you all think of it... I searched a little way back but without luck.

i'm listening to it right now......
  • Because of my background and beliefs I can't help but see the spiritual connotations within these lyrics. It parrallels the story of the crucifixtion (at least to me it does) but again it may have much more to with my own background.

Certainly this could mean something completely different to someone else... which again is the beauty in the lyrics of PJ many times. There are so many interpretations.

All I know is that I was privledged to have it played live both inthe Calgary and Edmonton concerts.... this is a very inspirational song that makes my heart soar when I hear it.

I agree....due to my beliefs I can't help but think of the same thing when I hear this song....But again, it's open to different interpretations. My favorite line:
"But first he was stripped and then he was stabbed by faceless men,
    Well FUCKERs.....He still stands"

I also put myself in the song and change lyrics to "she" from "he" when I sing it. Simply due to some of the things that life likes to challenge me with.

  • I personally don't feel the religous connection, but that may because I'm not religous. But there is no denying that it is asuperb song and easily in my top 5 PJ songs of all time. (Theres an idea for a thread).

"...had a SMOKE in a tree...."

of course, obviously symbolic of the last cigarette and the events that would surely follow due to nicotine withdrawal.

thanks for opening my eyes....going for a smoke break, later
