What does "Black" mean??

I'm sure you all have figured this out long ago, so I apologize for my tardiness. I've heard too many different stories about this one-- One being that is it about a girlfriend of Eddie's who od?? The Gorge was my first show, and I am just hoping I have a lot more awesome PJ shows in my future.

    As with all songs that someone listens to it kinda leaves it up to you to interpret, but I think its just an outlook on life after a lot of love type situations went wrong. I am guessing this because that's how I interpret the song and I can relate and thats why it makes it such a moving song for me :)

    It seems to be about the feeling of darkness that descends when someone who means the world to another leaves. It seems to be about the depression that follows a relationship that doesn't work out.

    Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...
    (From this part this is what i get;... his memories hes trying to forget,..and every thing is blank,..)

    As with any song,..it is meant for the listener to put it in their perspective and Im sure if you think about it you can,..I know I can and its very touching.
    And all of this that I put in, relates to how I see the song,...Yours is probably different.

    I have heard a few times Ed wrote it about a girlfriend who died/comitted suicide.

    I've always saw it as a person reminiscing about a relationship that was the last one he was in after period of time, and having trouble getting through it, because the memories are so haunting.

    i think its more about the after effects of someone leaving you for whatever reason.... how it hurts so badly and you think differently about everything. basically it changes your life b/c your world just crashed and it left a permanent scar in your soul or heart.

    i have read the parts too about the girlfriend and death for whatever reason. I don't know if that happened or not, it was never solid concrete info, but i dont think the song is about a girl dying b/c of these lines:

    I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
    I know you'll be a sun, in somebody else's sky
    But why, why, why can't it be... why can't it be mine?

    'someday' projects the future, meaning soon she's gonna be with someone else, and its going to kill him to see it and know it, and know that it isnt his anymore. hence, she wouldnt be dead.

    just my interpretation tho.

    great song, my fav PJ song of all time. ed was really on the ball when he made up those lyrics, an so was stone when he made the music for it
