I always loved them both, but seeing them live took them to a different level.

  • 1. Present tense: Played at the first St. John's show, I was so close to the stage, and the energy was great. I always liked the song, but it was definitely taken to a new level, it's sounds kind of cliche, but it was pretty spiritual. Everything was perfect at that particular moment, it was just so beautiful!

    2. Light Years: Similar story to Present Tense, but at the Second show, and I was far back. It was so amazing, just breathtaking, I was at a loss of words!

    Very much agreed...

After St John's #2, I fell in love with Light Years. The lighting board was right on the money for that song too.

And it really ties for me with RITFW... also St John's #2.

    Betterman

I liked it all along, but a live version is SO MUCH better IMO. Oddly enough, this was also one of the first things my father said too about it. He's not a big fan, but likes enough songs that I got him to go to a show, and Betterman was the one song that a live version of it really changed his opinion. He didn't care much at all for the album version.

    Save You and Once.

The first time I heard Save You was live, maybe that's why it was so awesome. And they closed a Missoula show with Once a few years back, it was amazing.

But Pearl Jam is a live band, almost all of their songs sound better live. One of the few bands on the planet that can play any 1 of over 100 songs at any time. Not many (probably zero) bands can claim that.
  • overall, i loved most of pjs catalogue long before hearing any of it live. however, i will definitely say i love porch way more now after hearing it live then i ever did just from the studio track. other tunes, yes, really enjoy the live versions as well...but already loved many of them beforehand. others still, have not heard live so have to wait and see...:)
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow
