  • i first heard of pearl jam in 1993/94 when i saw a video on mtv.
but in 1996 i heard a concert in berlin broadcasted on the radio, i think the first song i heard was yellow ledbetter. i recorded it on cassette, and i´m still proud of it.
in 2002, i´ve got my stickman tatoo.
    i hurt myself today,
to see if i still feel,
    i focus all the pain,
    the only thing that´s real...
  • I've heard of PJ about 4 years ago...
...I used to sing in one our local rock band and the guy who played guitar brought me a copy of Ten to listen and to sing it, so I took it and got addicted.

The most powerful vocal I have ever heard!
    I LOVE them ALL!

  • about 5 years ago when i was 14 i started to listen to nirvana and well, when you are a nirvana fan you will get in touch with pearl jam sooner or later...i knew alive because it was played on the radio sometimes but i was some of those stupid people that thought when you are a nirvana fan you have to hate pearl jam (because other people said so) and i did not care for alive...

but one day, it was a rainy afternoon in fall, i sat in my room, listening to the radoi and they played alive again...the only thing i thought was...how cool is that...got it from napster and listened to nothing else for a few days...and that would have been the end of my pearl jam story if i had not realizied that another song i knew from the radio and which i absolutly loved was a pearl jam song too...but i did not know the name, just a few words, something with understood feelings and words...so i read thousands of pearl jam lyrics until i found out it was called light years...then i started to buy the albums and the music touched me in a way other music never did

...been on my first show in vancouver last week...fuck...i think now i am becoming a real freak...

and i know that this story is not very exciting...

  • I remember it kind of clearly, it was 2000 and I was slowly creating my own musical tastes from listening to what little rock they played on the local Top 40 station in Columbia. I was getting into rock, and pushing away from trying to like the music the popular kids at high school were listening to.

I had heard "Last Kiss" on the radio before, and I had heard of Pearl Jam before, but I had never really given them any real thought.

It was early 2000, and I was still a good 5 months away from switching to the alternative rock station when I heard this...

*Please play Nothing As It Seems*

    I was hooked.
I figured it was time to change my sig.

  • I followed Mike in junior high when he played for Warrior and then Shadow. Saw Shadow a few times in 7th and 8th grades. I guess that would be 1978ish. Always thought he was awesome- even at 13 years old. When I was at the U of Washington I heard he'd joined this new band called Pearl Jam so off I went to buy the CD when it came out. Rest is history.

I had some friends who were into "grunge" music in the early 1990s and I got into Pearl Jam, STP and a few other bands from that era.

Enjoy it while it's happening- It won't last forever. That's what I've learned in my 39 years of life. I had so many chances to see Nirvana but kept putting it off. Things can change so quickly so go-go-go while they're still playing.
  • I all started about a year ago this time and of course i heard of pearl jam and enjoyed it before but i wasnt what youd call a fan. I was going on a road trip with the parents and wasnt planning on talking to them so i asked my sisters boyfriend (turns out he went to a chicago show in 2002) to burn me some cds pf bands such as nirvana soundgarden STP and pearl jam.

He gave me Ten Vs. and the Chicago bootleg along with some other bands. This first song i heard on the trip was Go and fell in love. The rest of the trip I must have listened to the boot a thousand times!

Ok, it was 92, and I was 13. The pop station back then played little of everything. When Jeremy came on, I was blown away by the story, voice and the guitar. If I listen just right, the first few notes of that song take me back to being a kid. I had just gotten my first CD player and picked a few albums in the cd store one weekend. I didn’t think pj was my type of music, so the fool that I was got Ten on cassette. BIG mistake, wore the damn thing out, and luckily before the tape literally snapped I had dubbed it over to another tape. I still remember what I was looking at when first heard “black”. The melody hit me hard, and I drifted off to space…this calm came over me. I was looking at my cd tower, at the two measly cds I owned, and how long it would take me to fill it up. Now, that’s not a problem, own over 150 cds, 14 of which are Pearl Jams. Ten single handedly helped me thru adolescences, and believe me, it wasn’t easy. My parents were going thru a divorce and I was struggling to find my place with having a disability. Not fun. I played Ten to escape, and there were many afternoons after school were I feel asleep listening to side two. Trying to belt out the lyrics in a way only Eddie can was it’s own twisted therapy too; loved his deep voice and how long he could hold a note. I had a blast trying to measure up. There’s nothing like throwing in your fav album, when there’s nobody around, and wailing out the lyrics.

I remember when Kurt died, I wasn’t surprised, his music seemed so unhappy. It was so obvious to me; this guy wasn’t just angry like Eddie, he was extremely depressed. I was worried about Eddie accepting fame, but I knew in my heart pj would make it. Damn right, they made it. I can’t imagine my world without them.

  • I had heard "jeremy" on the radio a few times and saw the video. I didn't pay too much attention to it at the time cause I was distracted by something else.....Then I stopped by a buddy of mine's house who I hadn't really seen much of for about a year or so....

We were hangin out and he asked "hey...do you like that new Pearl Jam band?"

I said....ummmmm, they're ok I guess. He had just bought Ten so he said...."you gotta listen to this shit"....he put it on and I've been hooked ever since.....

Then when I heard RVM....I freaked out....I identified with it and it kind of became my teenage theme song.

"I guess it was the beatings.....made me wise"

Now I'm pushing 30 and "somethings so much clearer"

    I love those boys
  • It was 91 and I was working at Fantastic Sams hair saloon at the time, and every day at 12 the station would play "hungerstrike" and I was starving and since I always skipped breakfast, my blood sugar would drop and I would be a bit shaky, and the womens hair I was doing would be jabbering away and I would aways shut them out about this time and listen to the lyrics of hungerstrike "i'm going hungry" over and over. Then, my husband bought ten and was Into them, and I started watching Jeremy video alot on TV because i thought It was the rockingest song ever and video, then, I got Into all the songs from Ten, and was Inlove with eddie's voice until this day, and of course the group as a whole. : )
  • I heard them when I was very young, about 9 yaers or so ago.. at least. I was very mature for my age - na dmy sister loved (loves still) them. I understood lyrics. I interpreted them. Some pretty screwed up things happened when I was younger, so I'd just HOPE my sister was listening to Pearl Jam every time I was in the room.

Then, I kind of spaced out and had some weird/crazy years and all that.

Now, I've renewed my love due to my late husband.

The music meant so much to him, and now it's continuing to mean an unmeasureable amount to me - if it weren't for Pearl Jam, I would have died right after my husband did.
