i'm open

can anyone shedsome light on this song. how did he wite it?? what inspired the song?? has eddie ever talked about it in print?? besides the odd tracks on vitalogy(bugs, pry, to; aye davanitsa, stupid mop) this is the most unique song in their catalogue. it comes out of nowhere on no code, and it's a very intriguing song. there's really nothing like it, except maybe the spoken words in 'bushleaguer.' but really, wtf?? jack wrote the music, so eddie came up with some strange lyrics to match it?? or did eddie write the words separately?? anyone know??

I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to how or when he wrote it, but don't you think the experience he's describing is pretty easy to understand? :)

oh, i totally understand the lyrics. i just don't know where they came from. like all that "when he was 6 he believed the moon overhead followed him, by nine he had deciphered the illusion, trading magic for fact no tradebacks..."
i have never heard him explain this song, or what inspired it. it is by far the most mysterious song by them. for me, anyways. i just love it. it's so different. there's nothing like it in their catalogue. it just pours emotion and loneliness. i don't know if he was inspired by the music jack had written for it, or if he had come up with them prior to the music?? it's not your standard pearl jam track and i would just be curious to know more about it. i've been listening to it for ten years+ and want some insight, if possible. : )
