ok guys i wanna know which albums you like by PJ the most my personal favorites are everything from Ten to No Code seems that everything from Yield started to be somewhat a watered down version of itself I really liked the very last album Riot Act i really hated binaural but for some reason most people hate No Code i find No Code to be a classic

  • best: Vitalogy. aggressive and dark, morbid, remained somewhat similar to Versus' style without totally abandoning it like with No Code, which is also a very good album, but still I find Vitalogy to be lyrically, emotionally, musically, variety-wise, experimentally to be their most satisfying.

worst: Binaural. I liked this album. liked. didn't love. there were no songs on this album that I really, really liked a whole lot. there were some that I liked enough to listen to repeatedly, but just too tired-sounding and weary for me. like No Code grew on me after awhile, Binaural was really great to me for awhile and then it lost its touch.

This is very hard for me to say, but I will say that Vitalogy is the best!! All the other albums are masterpieces still though.

  • best : Yield. its not very experimental or anything.. but in essence it's what Animals is to pink floyd. its near perfect.

worst: ten. overplayed and a bit boring and depressing.

    love them all though...

Here's my issue with No Code - it has some of their best songs, but Who You Are is among my least favorite songs and the flow of the album is just not right to me - I can say the same exact things about Binaural, but replace Who You Are with Evacuation.

So Ten, Vs. Vitalogy, Yield and Riot Act are my favorites - all solid songs, each album has great 'flow'.
  • there is no good or bad pj album, each one is unique for itself, the only difference between all records is that each one got his own speacial feeling.

Well, I couldn't say any PJ album sucks...in fact one reason I believe them to be the best band in the world is the different personalities of their albums, and how succesful they all are..Personally I prefer the post Vitology stuff. Had a nice life so the early stuff , while musaically admnirable, doesn't resonate with me. But one thing I have had a problem with is the song cycles on a few of the albums.Yeah, I have to say that I have often questioned the order of the songs on PJ's disc's....Don't get me wrong, I love 'em more than gold, but from Vitology, thru Riot, I've been a bit flummoxed by the song cycle's...except of course with 'Yield' . Yield is perfect, I love Yield...nuff said.

However, Three fast ones for Binaural opening, into a somber midection...Vitology's entire sporatic second half...and Riot Act, well ...How you gonna have a piece like 'Arc' anywhere other than the first slot...They figured that one out and had it introduce the 'Gardens' DVD...I finally had to reorder the songs and burn my own copy of Riot Act, which I dubbed..'Re-Enacted' , Cut out the three odd ball songs, opened with Arc, then boom..Get Right, then the flagship song 'I Am Mine' and it goes on from there..with the ballads at the half way point, and final slot...and 'Save you' 2nd to last providing one more burst of rock and roll, and sounding fresher for not having to carry the traditional 2nd slot role of rocking the kids...all and all, I just wish they'd pay a bit more attention to the ebb and flow of a disc. Because it's the journey that counts.
  • hey, james here. new to the forum so hey all. i gotta say my fav album has got to be no code. doesnt seem to be the most popular but i duno wot it is about it. the flow of the songs... it just fits. love it. least favourite...hmm, thts a toughy. guess id have to chose binaural. not because its bad in any way, merely for the fact the other are simply just better

first of all, great post. most people that rant just stick random words in there and write it all in one slurred together enourmous column.

    THANK YOU.

    but anyway...

i agree and disagree with you there..

Yield (as i said earlier) is perfect of course...

The only problems i have with order really would be that, of course, Binaural could be and WAS a LOT fucking better ordered. i lost the link to the original tracklist but i'm sure someone has it.

Arc/All Or None is a great closer, but you're right it really should've been first... first right into Love Boat Captain i'd say.

Kenny i happen to love Who You Are and think its one of their best songs. :)

    No Code
    VS.
    Vitalogy
    Yield
    Ten
    Riot Act
    Binaural

This changes all the time. The only consistent for me is Binaural at the bottom.

I say ten is the best, every song on ten is great. I'm not sure about the worst though.
If I knew where it was, I would take you there, but there's much more than this...

Ten-One amazing song after another, incredible musicianship and the vocals are mind blowing. It is a little dark, for some reason Ten seems like nighttime music to me and VS as day music lol.

    Worst

Now, saying any of the PJ qlbums is bad is crazy talk to me, but No Code is probably my least favorite. It has some awesome songs like Present Tense, Habit, and Hail Hail but its weighed down by the pointless Im Open and songs that dont really go anywhere like Sometimes, WHo You Are, and In My Tree.
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

saying those songs dont' go anywhere makes less sense than saying Ten is better than No Code...

but anyway... the experimentation they put out and evolved to goes completely unappreciated with a lot of people (most people i'd say...)

its not that I'm Open, Who You Are, and Sometimes don't go anywhere... its that the sound different and leave no opening for a solo... Who You Are at least is among their best work. I'd take just those 4 songs you listed as not going anywhere over the entire Ten album most days.

In My Tree is very structured and simple though, that one is a bit out of the blue.

All in all, i think this is a stupid and pointless thread. By what standards are we judging the albums? By the public's? The public sucks. I have different feelings about each album. I dont feel that they can be compared because each album stands on its own.

I agree on almost all fronts.

In My Tree is a brillient song, and that entire album is pretty damn amazing.

    In My Tree
    Red Mosquito
    Present Tense
    Smile
    Who You Are
    Hail, Hail
    Lukin
    Off He Goes

it doesn't get much better then that group of songs. period.

    very interesting analogy...

my favorite: No Code - it has always been my favorite since i first heard it. i have a lengthy story that goes along with my purchase of it but i will save you all the trouble of reading it yet again. But anyways, this record just does it for me, all the songs speak to me, and it is a turning point in not only their music, but in my life as well. a lot of the values i currently live by are evident in this record. its very spiritual and forces you to look at yourself from the outside. i'm not sure i articulated my argument too well, but thas how i feel about it.

my least favorite: Riot Act - still new and not yet experienced in the proper way. Its got some great tunes (LBC, Cant Keep, You Are, All or None) but it lacks the total package that i have come to enjoy out of all thier work. With that being said, i do not feel this is a poor effort, quite the contrary, it is still a very good record, just not hte quality of Ten-Binaural.

most under-rated: Not a topic i know, but i had to... Binaural - i see a lot of Binaural bashing on this board, and many people feel it was a waste. i on the other hand think it is brilliant. sometimes i enjoy it more than No Code, but overall i think No Code is a more solid record. The thing about Binaural is that you have to listen to it a lot to really get the most out of it. Many people talk about listening to it with headphones... thas how you gotta do it to really fall in love with it. but there is so much depth to the music that you can get lost looking at just hte surface. some of the guitar work is the best PJ has done, and the grooves really speak for themselves. as far as B-sides go (im talking about the LP B-side) this might have the best. i mean how can you compare to Insignificance, Of the Girl, Grienvence, Rival, Slight of Hand, Soon Forget adn Parting Ways...
    peace
