I guess when you can't get tickets to the show, this will have to work
  • Can any audiophiles explain for me - will we be able to listen to Gigaton in Dolby Atmos at home?  I assume that a CD would not be able to contain this sound format.  So we would need either blu-ray release or some sort of stream?  and has there been any announcements about home Dolby Atmos options?

There haven't been any announcements about a version available for purchase yet. But also, there isn't much Atmos music for purchase other than a few Blu Rays in some box sets (Abbey Road, Automatic for the People).

I checked out the Taylor Swift Reputation Tour movie on Netflix. It was mixed in Atmos. Shit sounds amazing.

  • Tidal now offers some albums in Dolby Atmos, so I'm hoping it's available to stream in its full glory there...just have to upgrade to an Atmos enabled amp now.

Have you heard or seen anything about any screenings happening here in Canada as of yet?

Nothing yet but I keep checking https://www.cineplex.com/Theatres/DolbyAtmos if Gigaton hits Cineplex Theatres.
  • I wonder why the band went this way when so few of us have the capabilities to listen to it in this way. I was just looking and it seems the majority of speakers are not compatible with Dolby Atmos. Am I missing something?

Well for one, the only way we can experience this record in Atmos is at the theater, so it's not like its that big of a deal (as opposed to ONLY releasing the album on Atmos). So its not like they are screwing the fans doing this.

Second, its a cutting edge mix, way better than surround. Some say the future of home sound. They were given the chance to be early adopters and along with that, they get some easy press for the new record ("First New Universal album mixed in Atmos!!").

I don't see a downside for anyone here.

The Soundgarden Superunknown deluxe set came with a DTS app and download that was 7.1 channels & sounded amazing on headphones. I bet there is an Atmos playback app out there
