I Got Id

This is in reply to the thread posted a few months ago. Although I am new to this forum I happen to be working at a sleep disorders lab and came across the message pit. As to the lyrics for I GOT ID doesn't it sound as if the song is about a person who is deformed in some way physically or mentally and because of this deformity he has to fall in love in his dreams because no one in the physical world will show him affection or love. Just wanted to throw that out there as a possible. Let me know what you think?

I think the song is about a lonely individual, who wants to make contact somebody but for some reason cant. Your idea about deformity could apply i dont know for sure though. The lyrics seem straight forward but like many of PJ's songs most are ambiguous.

Welcome to the board. Im also new but have visited these pages regularly to find out about stuff, finally thought i would start posting. Im addicted.

Everyone is allowed their own interpretation, that being said, I don't see the physical deformity angle...but the mental anguish angle surely makes sense.

  • I conjured the deformity interpretation from one of the last lines. "I'll just smile and wait for the dream. when I'm not ugly and you're looking at me." Meaning that in his dreams he's beautiful and everyone can fall in love with him.

I think it's just someone who sees themselves as a perpetual loser; and is in love with a girl he beleives he can never have. It's not necessarily Quasimoto here; just someone who has no self esteem.

    That's awesome

I can see where you're coming from with that, but I don't think it's as drastic as a deformity. Maybe this guy has managed to convince himself that he is ugly, but mentally not necessarily physically.

It seems to me to be along these lines as well...and if not along the lines of self-esteem per se, perhaps someone who can't see the main character of the song anything more than a friend, etc.
