    1. The song essentially has two titles: I Got Shit and I Got Id. The Id is a psychological construct that Sigmund Freud theorized about.
THE ID (“It”): functions in the irrational and emotional part of the mind. At birth a baby’s mind is all Id - want want want. The Id is the primitive mind. It contains all the basic needs and feelings. It is the source for libido (psychic energy). And it has only one rule --> the “pleasure principle”: “I want it and I want it all now”. In transactional analysis, Id equates to "Child".

Id too strong = bound up in self-gratification and uncaring to others (source)

    2. The lyric, "I walked the line...," is a reference to the protagonist walking the thin line between emotional stability and emotional instability. I wrote my thoughts on the song in another thread...I'll post it here too: to me I Got Id is an introspective song about a person who is struggling to remain psychologically stable...what's amazing and powerful about the song is that it captures the tragedy of a person who knows he is struggling, but cannot do anything about it. this song is so deep it's not even funny. i love how it begins and ends with the same line...which imparts a sense of hopelessness and accurately portrays the cyclical nature of his condition...he can describe his psychopathologies, but he is unable to affect a change in himself to overcome his struggle and strengthen his fragile psyche.

And no one sings me lullabyes
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky....

Actually i was about to ask that, i got confused with the title I Got Shit / I Got ID. BTW the song is currently playing in my player. Thanks so much for clearing my thoughts. :)
    "i forgot the words...."
  • the reason they changed the title to i got id was becuase sony didn't like the word "shit" on a single.

thats why it appears as "id" on the single and on RVM, but it appears as "shit" on live set lists.

that stuff you said is the reason they chose to replace "shit" with "id" though :)
Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..
