String Quartet Tribute!!!!

I don't know if this has already been discussed...haven't been here in a while...Anyway I went into Tower Records (cuz everything is on sale so sad) and I was looking through the Pearl Jam section and I came across this String Quartet Tribute CD that I had never seen before...I bought and it's awesome...I was wondering what anybody else thinks about it or if they had even heard about it...the set list is old school but its still cool to hear violins mimicking Ed's voice and the instruments rocking the music...you could play it at a dinner party and no one would be the wiser that they were drinking wine and eating cheese to PJ....Thats about it...oh yea Going to Bridge School on the 21st SO STOKED!!!!!!!

  • The string quartet tribute was good shit. I like falling to sleep to it. It is pretty amazing that they can make the instruments sound like eddie's lyrics.
Oh he fills it up with the love of a girl...
  • i found the album mediocre at best. but then again i would prefer a full orchestra to play these songs. a string quartet doesnt do a good job fully capturing epic songs like alive or jeremy.

the actual musicians did a great job with what they had. maybe if they improvised a little more, some songs made me cringe (im sorry its true).

their version of Small Town and Betterman are awesome though.

try playing the album through without looking at the track listing, its fun to name each song.
I remember when I thought i knew everything..
Lets say knowledge is a tree,
It's growing up just like me.

I have it and also bought a copy for a friend of mine who recently had a baby, so she could play in the nursery.
I love it, it's an sneeky way to get in some PJ, and no one know's that your getting your PJ fill:)

I liked what they did with the songs but their own composition at the end wasn't up to much.

You should also check out some albums by a guy called Christopher O'Riley. He's a classical pianist who has recorded 2 cds of Radiohead songs played on piano. The first one, 'True Love Waits', is the best. He's also done a tribute to Elliott Smith called 'Home To Oblivion' which is awesome.

i've seen it a couple of times, contemplated picking it up, and didn't. i think i should. just today went to see marie antoinette...really good btw...but point is, they mixed in contemporary music, but also DID take contemporary music and slow it down, played with a full orchestra, etc...and it sounded amazing. don't ask me what artists/songs..i can't recall offhand, but it was good. anyway, even if just strings, i am sure a fresh sound to familar, beautiful music...would be a good thing. :) next time i see it, that's it, i am picking it up. :)
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...
