Hunger Strike

Alright, I just spent 2 and a half hours downloading the video for Hunger Strike.
COMPLETELY WORTH IT!!!

I got Temple of the Dog's album after hearing the last 30 seconds of Hunger Strike on MTV2. From Temple of the Dog, Mother Love Bone. From Mother Love Bone, Malfunkshun (hence the sig).

So, while I can always get caught up the sheer beauty of the composition and performance of this song, and am quite happy to do this as I write this message, I will always be reminded of the great music I discovered because of this song.

Of course, nothing has ever touched Hunger Strike. It is, without a doubt, my favourite song, ever. Bestest song, everest.

The only way it could possibly be better would be if it somehow involved monkeys.

  • It's pretty cool, actually. Chris, Ed and the guys rocking out on a beach - I've heard it was filmed near the famous 'Green River', but, living in Ireland, I have absolutely no idea where it's filmed.
    It's a really touching video.
Ironically, after spending a couple of hours downloading it, I taped it off MTV2 last night. :-D

I remember chatting with a girl here a couple of years ago from Seattle. She said if I ever got to seattle, she would show me where it was filmed.

yeah its them basically performing in on a sort of beach, amongst the sand, and dunes etc. the first glimpse you see of ed when he starts his first lines, he is standing amonst all these really tall wreeds or bushes

  • Also, just saw the live performance of this song on reachdown.com, absolutely amazing. Chris Cornell has the voice of a god, as does Eddie. This is a performance from 91/92(?) when they were both in their very prime.

I remember seeing the video for "Hunger Strike" all those years ago , when MTV still played videos. It was and still is one of the greatest songs.... If you haven't gotten the Temple of the Dog CD, do yourself a favour. Rush out and get it. "Say Hello 2 Heaven" runs chills up and down my spine when I just think of the lyrics, let alone hear them.

can anyone back me up on my belief that there were 2 hunger strike videos? they were almost identical except the one i saw first had more of chris underneath the table and close ups of ants, while the 2nd had more beach scenes. anyone? and thanks for that reachdown.com thing. heading there now.

The temple of the dog cd is very good and 100 percent worth buying. The best song on there in my opinion is Say Hello 2 Heaven. Chris Cornell wrote that song for Andrew Wood and it's so beautiful.
Don't you know there's something inside your head.

I cant believe so many on here didnt know about that video!!
Im in my mid-30's so I remember when I first saw it on MTV and at the risk of sounding dramatic it was life-altering for me. We were just coming out of the hair-metal era and suddenly theres these beautiful SOCIALLY CONCIOUS (something that had been missing on the scene) men singing this song on the beach with their long baggy shorts and long dark hair which by itself was beautiful to see after all those overproduced crap videos we had been subjected to for so long- and then that it happened to be the most mesmerizing and empathetic song I had ever heard didnt hurt. Ok...deep breath, Ill try to calm down now :D

Btw- spnoone : Ive only ever known of the one video, but I think if there is another to be dug up, youre the man for the job ;)
  • i fukin love ddat album. dat and ten never leave my stereo. im tryin to get apple buts its hard to get. wats green river like i never heard em but dare supposed 2 b gd
  • a lot of pj videos have beaches aye, or waves, guess it was the whole surfin thing. does any 1 else think eddie looks like nervous as when the first shot goes of on him in the tall grass.? i do.
But you break like a little girl.

Who would even notice that..lol.. (checks to see if her postcount is the same...) :)

Edit- it is the same, must be a logical reason that completely escapes my feeble mind) ;)
  • haha who does look at details like that?? only weirdos i guess!!!

dont worry, logic escapes my mind too. i took one of those critical thinking philosophy classes in college, and i got like a C or something..

[i have kind of always thought logic is way too mathemathical for fields that are better served with poetry:)]

The video was shot at Discovery Park not too far from Seattle, visited there last summer very cool place (mainly because of the hunger strike vid!).

    i don't mind stealing bread
    from the mouths of decadence
but i can't feed on the powerless
    when my cup's already overfilled
    but it's on the table
    the fire's cooking
    and they're farming babies
while the slaves are all working
the blood is on the table
    and their mouths are choking
    but i'm growing hungry
    i don't mind stealing bread
    from the mouths of decadence
but i can't feed on the powerless
    when my cup's already overfilled
    but it's on the table

    and they're farming babies
while the slaves are all working
    and it's on the table
    the mouths are choking
    but i'm growing hungry
    i'm going hungry...
    i don't mind stealing bread
no, i don't mind stealing bread
    i'm going hungry...
    i'm going hungry...

    ( lovely, thanks Chris :)
  • yeah eden, you could say i would rather 'feel' than 'think'...although i might deny it depending on my mood;)

  • It's an awesome video... Hunger Strike and Oceans, they're both too special to me... Eddie with his long hair, Chris as well, seeing the guys at that time... I wish I could express all of my feelings about that video... I guess I have to study more your language lol

  • The best vocals on Temple of the Dog is Chris doing "Wooden Jesus", that guy has three lungs or something, what a voice!
Work, consume, work, consume...are you free?
  • oh i love that song and that video...every man should have such hair...;)
well it is just the one song where the two most unbelievable, amazing and best singers ever sing together...wow
well the whole totd album is amazing...when chris sings on reach down without any music...and the rest...help
i'd appreciate if chris and eddie sing together again...or even better, if (or when) audioslave (don't get that wrong, i like audioslave) break that chris becomes the second singer of pearl jam...
