Garden

I'm listening to Garden, and I realized, once again, that it truly is a masterpiece. The chorus is so amazingly beautiful. I wish I had some moment in my life that reminded me of this song. Does anybody have any thoughts or stories relating to Garden?

  • She don't wander in...don't wander in here, she...
She don't wander in here...don't wander in here...

The direction of the eye, so misleading
The defection of the soul, nauseously quick
    I don't question, our existence
I just question, our modern needs

She don't wander in...don't wander in here, she...
    She don't wander in here...

I will walk...with my hands bound
I will walk...with my face blood
I will walk...with my shadow flag
Into your garden, garden of stone...yeah...

After all is done, and we're still alone
I won't be taken, yet I'll go...with my hands bound
I will walk...with my face blood
I will walk...with my shadow flag
Into your garden, garden of stone

    I don't show...I don't share...
I don't need, yeah...What you have to give...

Oooh, I will walk...with my hands bound
I will walk...with my face blood
I will walk...with my shadow flag
    Into your garden, garden...oh...

I will walk with my hands bound
I will walk into your garden, garden of stone...

    I don't know...I don't care...
I don't need you for me to live...yeah, yeah, yeah, oh...
    Uh huh huh... (8x)

Sorry, but I had to post the lyrics. This song, incredible as it is, also has some personal meaning to it. This song came on during some peculiar turn of events in my life and seemed to match my dilema perfectly.

I love how this song reciprocates loyalty, confusion, and regret at the same time. I may have it all wrong, I don't know.

an awesome song for sure right up there with there best. my theory is that ten is for sure on of the greatest albums ever (not just PJ's best but a best for all time) with great songs that the the commecial public know such as jeremy, alive and evenflow but the reason that it holds up so well is that it starts with the rockin once and hits the middle with black in its epic glory and rocks soars with garden, then mellows out with a dreamy release. fuck im gonna go n listen to it now.

  • I think the fact that the song starts off steady and calm and then just blasts into that awesome chorus is what makes it my favourite, you don't get that with many songs (by anyone) and this one acheives it perfectly. Ten is definitely one of my three top albums of all time, which are:
    1. Nevermind
    2. Ten
    3. Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic, but I'm also a bit obsessed with Californication
I know that I'm the only one to post here in like 6 hours, but I'm really bored, it's midnight here, and I'm not asleep yet due to my insomnia, which is usually saved by late night viewings of recorded video clips from 'Rage' but the VCR is being fixed, so here I am....... bored....

  • Funny you should ask about specific memories relating to Garden. I was about 12 years ago and my beautiful black cat, Shadow, had just passed away. I lived in an apartment at the time so I had no room for a proper burial. I borrowed a shovel and had my wife drop me at the local state park just after dark. It's not legal to bury an animal in a state park but I didn't care. I snuck in and starting walking in the pitch dark to a remote part of the park. As I was walking I slipped on my walkman to keep me company as I bid farewell to my furry little pal. Well right when I did this the song started up and the following lyrics came out..
"I will walk, with my Shadow flag, into your Gardnen of Stone"

It kind of freaked me out. It seeme like the words were eerily close to what I was about to do.

Now everytime I hear that song, I think of my cat. I still visit her grave from time to time.

Hope I didn't creep anybody out, animals in my family have always warranted proper burial.

    Peace.

I agree. So underrated but so beautiful and full of emotion.

  • I guess for me Garden is a deeply spiritual song with echoes of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Who is there to fight back against the deceptive light? I play it when I need to go into a place that seems like darkness, I play it when I want to make the choice to go there, to see what I will find. It's usually something that saves me, like the song.

  • my fave live version: Dissident single/atlanta concert #2, also great version of solat. Also the intro riff was the first pj I ever learned how to play. My fave from ten.

Isn't strange sometimes how a song can relate to what your doing at the moment?

Thanks for sharing your story. I agree that pets deserve proper burials. I tend to move a lot, so I've had a couple of cats privately cremated.

Re: Garden - the song can really stick with you. I had in my head once during a day of hiking. It just stayed there and though I had hiked that trail several times I still remember that time, because of Garden.
Walking can be a real trip

  • Did PJ play Garden at any of the 2003 shows? I'd like to download a live version from the 2003 tour if one exists. I love the song, but have never heard it play live at any of the shows I have attended.
    Thanks
