Red Mosquito

watched from the window, with a red mosquito
i was not allowed to leave the room
i saw the sun go down, and now it's coming up
somewhere in the time between
i was bitten, must have been the devil
he was just paying me...
a little visit, reminding me of his presence
letting me know, he's a-waiting... oh
red man's your neighbor, call it behavior
while you're climbing up slippery hills
two steps ahead of him, punctures in your neck
hovering just above your bed
hovering just above your bed
i was bitten, must have been the devil
he was just paying me...
a little visit, reminding me of his presence
and letting me know, he's a'waiting, he's a'waiting...
up there... yeah
if i had known then what i know now...
if i had known then what i know now...
if i had known then what i know now...
if i had known then what i know now...
All that's sacred, comes from youth....dedications, naive and true.

    my favorite song
"I hear Fanch has a Pimp Cup and loves Kiss. I think that's all that really matters."
  • That song gets me so pumped!!! OMG MIKE MCCREADY JUST PLAYS THE HELL OUTTA THIS SONG!!! It would've been interesting to have seen a video for this one...heard a rumor that it was written about a patient who was in a hospital and was there bc they were involved in something they regret...but with that in mind I think it's sort of symbolic about No Code as a "healing album" and that the title had something to do with a hospital...there, got my 2 cents worth...
    "Darth Vader would say 'Impressive'."

  • It's about some sort of guilt remorse thing and finally taking the responsilibty for what happened.
Bitten by the devil - this whole idea seems to me like a shirking of responsibility, blaming it on something else, little, insignificant.
If I had known then, what I know now. I think we all had thought that one before we heard it in the song (it's a sagacious little thing to say anyway) and this just kind of sums it up. I should've taken the fall...if I had known.

But that's like your opinion, Dude

  • After listening to it fer the first time I was informed from a fella that it was about vampires. I don't know if it really is or not but I've never been able to shake the vampire association from the tune.

  • This is definitely one of those tunes that grows on you...

I always thought it was about a heroin addict that can't get off the junk. Finally o.d'ing... I don't know maybe that's a little morbid.

Still, McCready really lets fly on this one live.
    "My road may be lonely
    just because it's not paved

    it's good for drifting away..."
    "What's the score?"
    "Nothing, nothing."
    "Who's winning?"
    "The Bears."
