Austin City Limits Lodging Idea - if Pearl Jam Plays
OK, first of all, I know this is way premature since "Pearl Jam at Austin City Limits Festival" is just a rumor and not official. But I was thinking of places to stay in Austin during that weekend and wanted to kind of talk it out in case the rumore proves to be true.
Hotels are already booked pretty solid for that weekend. So, a couple of fellow board members in Austin pointed out to me that a lot people rent their homes out during the SXSW and ACL festivals.
This could be a fun (not to mention inexpensive when you get 8 or 10 people together to split the costs) alternative to staying in a hotel for the weekend.
Here is an example. There are many more like it, but they are starting to book up for that weekend:
http://www.vrbo.com/120528
Here is the normal rate, but I understand it is higher during the fesitval weeks. Still, we get 8 or 10 people together and that is completely doable:
$250 per night 2-3 guests/$270 4-6 guests/$290 7+guests
If anyone is planning on going to ACL and is interested in trying something like this, let me know. However, I am not going if PJ isn't playing. I think the lineup is announced in May or something.
What do you think? Bring your food, bring your booze and party like rock stars for the weekend.

I am hoping this turns out to be true. Maybe I'll ask Ed if I bump into him Thursday night at SXSW.
Are you sure all the hotels are already booked up? If anyone has any ?s about hotels or certain areas of the city I would be glad to help out.0 -

Not all, but the few I checked were booked up. I just checked some that seemed close to Zilker Park.
Yes, ask him!DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

this can't happen, based on the wiki information last week that Jill is pregnant. if it was taken off of wiki because someone didn't want this personal information out there, then there's no way they're playing this festival. if it was taken off because it wasn't true, then it's possible.Fighting childhood obesity...

The last time I checked several hotels were booked and the Hampton I stayed at downtown two years ago was very expensive for that weekend. I think the house idea is o.k., but whoever is responsible for booking it (and thus responsible for damage, etc) would have to make sure housemates knew the rules. We shared a house in Colorado with four other couples this past summer. AFTER the house was booked the owners sent a bunch of rules we had to follow, i.e. shoes HAD to be taken off the minute we entered the door, sheets had to be taken off and piled in a certain spot, towels too, and dishes had to be washed I think. You would have to make sure that you got responsible housemates so that when you left you didn't lose your deposit because of cleaning fees, rule breaking, etc. AND that you didn't get stuck doing a bunch of work to get it into shape. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals. Oh, yeah. I've rented homes in Colorado and we just did one in San Diego last year. Same deal, lots of rules. Biggest thing you have to remember is that it is someone else's home you are living in. There would have to be some understanding about it. I think I would try to stick with people I know and trust, if that were possible, but I think most people would be cool with it.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13
