{}{}{}{}Nothing As It Seems{}{}{}{}

Don't feel like home. He's a little out.
And all these words elope. It's nothing like your poem.
Putting in. Inputting in. Don't feel like methadone.
A scratching voice all alone it's nothing like your baritone.

It's nothing as it seems. The little that he needs. It's home.
The little that he sees. Is nothing he concedes. It's home.

One uninvited chromosome. A blanket like the ozone.

It's nothing as it seems. All that he needs. It's home.
The little that he frees is nothing he believes.

Saving up a sunny day. Something maybe two tone.
Anything of his own. A chip off the corner stone.
Who's kidding? Rainy day. A one way ticket headstone.
Occupations overthrown. A whisper through a megaphone.

It's nothing as it seems. The little that he needs. It's home.
The little that he sees is nothing he concedes. It's home.
And all that he frees. A little bittersweet. It's home.
It's nothing as it seems. The little that you see it's home.

Such a beautiful song, at first, I had trouble listening to it, but now it's one of my favorites.
Life reveals what is dealt through seasons
Circle comes around each time

  • Ya know, Ament's contributions to Pearl Jam have been so awesome over the years. Of course I'm biased cause I'm a bassist and he's like, a HUGE influence on my playing (since 1993). It's just so subtle, the harmonic slide on 'evenflow', the fat eight string on 'jeremy', and who could forget 'solat'. And the newer tracks: 'god's dice', and 'sleight of hand' to name two. I mean he may not write as much as Stone or Eddie, but when he does, it hits the mark. I've also wondered if 'nothing as it seems' may be about Andrew Wood. Anyone think so? Peaceout......
That's one more time around... and there is not a sound. . . he's lying dead, clutching benjamins never put the money down

    He's stiffening. . . we're all whistling

    A man we'll soon forget.

I think it's to late to be about Andrew Wood. For some reason, I always thought it had something to do with Mike.

I think this may be the song that actually got me into Pearl Jam back in 1999 or 2000. Sure I heard Last Kiss on the radio and liked it, but when this song was played on my local pop station (wow, Pearl Jam on a pop station) it just stuck in my head for some reason.
I figured it was time to change my sig.

i especially bought a good pair of headphones when the album came out. it´s really cool to hear the record with good ones. the songs get more emotional.
    i hurt myself today,
to see if i still feel,
    i focus all the pain,
    the only thing that´s real...
  • Good headphones make Binaural a great albm. I think the general dislike for it, is due to the fact that it needs better equipment to be heard in it's entirety

I agree with Hitch Hiker, its totally awesome through headphones. This is my fav song off Binuaral and one of my favorite PJ songs of all time. Its not so much the lyrics as it is Mike whaling away on his guitar. Gives me chills everytime I hear it, its also my cell phone ringer.
