Soul Asylum and Local H tour

Anyone going to/excited for this? I'll be hitting up the kickoff show at First Ave end of week. Looking forward to it, as they are a couple of my favorite '90s bands.

The holiday shows are usually good times. I missed last year because of a blizzard though. Not sure what it was like in the city, but I'm 3 hours down the road.
  • Love Local H but not much interest in seeing Soul Asylum so I'll probably pass on this one.  It's nice living in Chicago with Local H playing random shows at small clubs and bars.

Both bands have new albums soon! This past weekend I listened to the Patrick Bateman and Dead Letter singles on repeat to get ready for the "new" stuff when I hear it live.

How is Soul Asylum without Dan?

I'd be curious to see them with Michael Bland.

We bought tickets for Detroit. Saw Soul Asylum once back in 2009. They were much better than I expected them to be. My wife is a bigger fan of theirs than I am but they have a lot of good songs and are really tight live.

Local H is.......Local H. Those guys are just plain amazing and I am super excited to be seeing them again. They deserve to be much bigger and more successful than they are. Truly one of the hardest working acts I have ever seen.

Local H was only given 45 minutes last night, but they F'N rocked it! Asked them about the new album at the merch table and they said April.

SA was good as always, but too many new songs. I have no problem with new material, but when the record isn't out yet and I don't know any of them beforehand, I can't really get into them live. They broke out Crawl though, so that was cool.

Bummer about Local H. Cool to see them in any capacity though.

    I'm getting excited for Detroit!

Yes. Saw them a few years back at a tiny local bar. Very cool.

Dan is missed but Ryan Smith is a perfectly capable fill in on guitar. He fits the vibe of Soul Asylum. Dan's vocals haven't been replaced however; there hasn't been a great backup / harmonizing singer since he left. Michael Bland has been drumming with them since 2004-ish. He is great. The setlists have been interesting in recent years too, changing markedly from tour to tour, and lots of old album tracks and rarities have been reintroduced to the live show after years of not being played.

Can't wait to hear all the new songs.

Totally forgot about Local H. Saw them open for STP at the Boston Garden ages ago. Last time I saw them live. I'll need to look into this.

    New Local H: https://music.mxdwn.com/2020/01/22/news/mxdwn-premiere-local-h-deftly-blends-melody-and-heaviness-on-new-song-turn-the-bow/

I enjoy Patrick Bateman more. Looking forward to the complete album.

Went to the show last night in philly. Never seen Soul Asylum before, they were good. I liked Local H better. For just two guys they rock pretty loud. Not too many other duos can say that (maybe Royal Blood, Death From Above or Japandroids?).
