Nature as its own religion...?

ya know, i cannot believe i have always gotten this wrong? i always thought ed sang 'nature HAS it's own religion'...and i guess the fact that theskyiscrape.com posts the same as lyrics, i thought i was right. :p granted, i know tsis is not an authority, but sure i always looked to them for lyrics until pearljam.com came along. so yea, i would assume that the lyrics listed on the 'official' pj site would contain the correct lyrics, but now i feel a bit embarassed...haha. i actually sent something to pj with the words 'nature has it's own religion' on it....yikes. i mean, both do sound correct lyrically/metaphorically either way.

anyhoo...anyone else have these lyrics mixed up?

Tidal waves don't beg forgiveness
Crashed, then on their way
Father he enjoyed collisions; others walked away
A snowflake falls in May.
And the doors are open now as the bells are ringing out
Cause the man of the hour is taking his final bow
Goodbye for now.

Nature as its own religion; gospel from the land
Father ruled by long division, young men they pretend
Old men comprehend.

And the sky breaks at dawn shedding light upon this town
They'll all come around
Cause the man of the hour is taking his final bow
Goodbye for now.

And the road
The old man paved
The broken seams along the way
The rusted signs, left just for me
He was guiding me, love, his own way
Now the man of the hour is taking his final bow
As the curtain comes down
I feel that this is just goodbye for now

Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

  • I'm quite sure that the lyrics on the booklet of Big Fish soundtrack are the ones you found on theskyiscrape.com ..but maybe they changed some words later, playing it live
it's easy to confuse a great design with life's ripercussions

i'd rather die than give you control

interesting. i do not own the soundtrack, i bought the cd single of the song thru 10C. it would be very interesting to know if they printed up one set of lyrics for the soundtrack, and then another set for pearljam.com...and indeed if the 2 studio recordings are different lyrically.

listening to the milan boot, i DO hear it as 'nature AS it's own religion'...but of course, 'has' and 'as'...not too far a stretch. :p

  • I always though it was "has" too.

I also thought the second line was "crashing on their way"
