Pearl Jam just started following SNL on Twitter

Obviously this could be completely random and mean nothing, but I found this interesting and curious.

Just saw this on Twitter:

Why else would these artists start following SNL, besides that they will soon be announced as Musical Guests?

Every year for I don’t know how long, I have put in for SNL tickets and have never gotten picked. Maybe this season the stars will align and I will get tickets and get to see Pearl Jam perform.

Social media handles are run by 3rd party accounts (i.e. Ed or Stone isn't sitting there on twitter saying "Oh! SNL, we played that a couple times. lemme give it a follow.") ...but you knew that.

Rather, the people that run the accounts follow things like SNL to make the interaction between each other easier. For instance, if i were to try and tag SNL in a post by not following them, there's a chance it won't won't come up with a link to their account, BUT if I follow them and try to tag them, there's a better chance they will come up. You have to think like a 40-50something running this account. Because thats exactly who is running these accounts.

if you don't follow someone it just wont auto populate, it does nothing to prevent you from tagging them. the auto pop feature just assures you know the tag is correct.

Same. Been praying to get picked for the Eddie Murphy Christmas episode. Couldn’t imagine that being paired with PJ.

This is what we are resorting to?  Twitter following?  Come on PJ.  Announce something!

Yes. Next step below this is someone posted that they saw two clouds in the sky that formed a ‘P and a ‘J’ so it means Pearl Jam must be getting to play their city.

My thinking was that whoever is managing Pearl Jam's social media is following SNL so when SNL posts that Pearl Jam is playing an upcoming episode, Pearl Jam will be able to quickly retweet.  I am thinking the scheduling happens in bunches, hence Paul Simon's team followed SNL the same day as PJ, for the same reason.   Paul Simon is an odd booking for 2019/2020 though... Maybe there is some highlight special coming up or something, featuring old performances by Pearl Jam, Paul Simon and others... Can't be just a total coincidence.

The latter seems more likely that SNL will do some best of the 2010's performances rundown that would include Paul Simon and Pearl Jam

PJ gets in just under the wire in that case since they last played SNL in 2010.  Paul Simon was as recent as 2018

Paul Simon is a friend of Lorne's. So he will get a spot if he asked.

I'm sure each band or artist hires someone to run their social media. I don't think they all use one company

No.  I am just saying, it seems unlikely that this coincidence is about Pearl Jam appearing on SNL at some point in the spring of 2020. Yes.  I could be wrong, but it feels more likely that it could be about something less bombastic as an appearance announcement because they happened to follow the account.

Man.  That guys is just sad.  I could not imagine copying the stuff we gab about and culling it together as "news".

I mean sure, given the topic, he could be like the proverbial monkeys at a typewriter, but...

  • If they appear in March, we should be learning about it soon.
  • Doesn't appear they will be on in March.  Dua Lipa was just announced for March 28th as the musical guest with John Krasinski hosting.

This would be the week to do it. Will be difficult after next Saturday. They would need Thursday and Saturday off. And they will be in Canada. So I doubt they would want to travel back and forth in a short amount of time.
    Best chance is late April

Did you all the hype for Old Navy's t-shirt that almost quoted "Better Man"? Some of that was more on FB than her , but still...

Or just waiting until Sunday morning and watching on YouTube.
