    Stone is not wrong.
    particularly talking Sleeps with Angels.

Consider that in the span of 1990 - 2000 Neil released the following
    Ragged Glory w/the Horse
    Harvest Moon
    aforementioned SWA w/the Horse
    Mirror Ball
    Broken Arrow
    Silver & Gold

Weld, Unplugged, Year of the Horse, Road Rock

That is how he spent age 45-55.
His eminence has yet to show.

One could -- almooost -- say it is as strong as his 1970s. almoooooost.

definitely strong, I think his "solo" stuff in the 70s is stronger than the 90s period, I think the Horse was at its Zenith live in the 90s but wrote and backed Neil's seminal songs in that 70s era.  But, I will still argue that Sleeps with Angels is the best record, regardless of time period.  But I was 21 when that came out, so I am biased.

I think stuff from the 70s is his best. But Harvest Moon and Broken Arrow (instead of Sleeps with Angels) is among the best of the best.

Over the years, I've heard the word "genius" applied to so many artists, writers, and musicians that I'm not even sure what the word means anymore.  But I will say this- I think these are definitely correct:

-Neil Young is one the 20th centuries great songwriters.
    -Niel Young is totally authentic.
    -Neil Young is nobody's fool.
-Neil Young's guitar playing is distinctive and he is one of the best lyrical, melodic players in all of rock history.
-Neil Young's devotion to a strong musical ethic is unwavering.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.
