Rearviewmirror

amazing song, just builds and builds to the climax.
anyway, is the common meaning of the lyrics that its about eddie leaving his stepdad, getting away from it. or is there many other interpritations?

The climax on where Eddie says "rearviewmirror" brings a smile to my face everytime. So much passion.

Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"
  • (if this is already posted sorry, but i didnt think it worked)

YES! RIERVIEW MIRROR is an awesome song
i always interpretted it as being about getting out of a bad relationship
either way though, it kicks ass!
  • Oh how I love that song!!! I run to it every morning! Ya, I always assumed it was about Ed leaving somebody (like his stepdad). It's such a great image--watching somebody in your rearview mirror as you drive away. It's so simple, so obvious, and so powerful. Did I mention that I love that song?!?
"Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid," Goethe said that.
  • its probably my second fav PJ song behind GIven to Fly....

I always take it as getting out of a relationship with someone
    Carpe Diem Baby
  • I think it's about Eddie being in a situation he doesn't like, feeling he needs to get out, he wants to be alone, he drives off.
To worry about tomorrow doesn't make it easier,
    it only makes today worse.
  • REARVIEWMIRROR!!! Haha when Im driving and listening to this song I always turn the volume all the way up and roll down the windows at the climax. Once I even passed someone who knew the song cuz they started singing along. lol..good times....I also do it with even flow. WAHHHHH!
I too love the old 'WAHHHHH!'...But 'Saw things,...' over and over, awesome.
Too many cowboys, not enough indians, so just go ape shit!

I may be boring but at least I'm not Jack fucking Johnson.

TV is such shit; let's go outside and ride bicycles, right now!

And I wished for so long cannot stay All the precious moments cannot stay Its not like wings have fallen
cannot stay But still somethings missing I cannot say yea Holding hands are daughters and sons And their faiths are falling down down down down I have wished for so long How I wish for you today

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the song is about getting away from suicide. "Saw things so much clearer, once you were in my rearviewmirror." Basically, everything was clearer once it was behind me.
  • theres much to take from this song, the relationship anelegy(sorry for my spelling) is the obvious one, one i link the song to myself, but wether this is the right onr i'm not sure
it crosses the boundrys of most songs and people can take from it what they choose.
ps always be in my top 3 though
reminds me of the old days when me and my best friend drove to college with it blasting on the stereo
twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. no question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. the creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but alredy it was impossible to say which was which

i have interpreted rearviewmirror as a sequel to daughter. (shades go down in daughter, shades are raised in rvm).
daughter is the "difficult" family situation, rvm is the emancipation.

That is interesting. I've never really thought about that.....
I always thought RVM would make a very powerful video and have pictured the screenplay and direction in my head so many times while listening. It is simply an amazing song.
