Reflections on Mirror Ball

JEFF: It was 5 days total, but it was 4 days of recording the Neil songs. And then the 5th day, they went in and they recorded that version of “I Got Id.” But I had the flu for two days. It might have just been like pushing down the pressure and anxiety and just trying to, you know, focus…  and you're in the studio with one of your favorite, if not your favorite artist ever, and not wanting to let him and the whole session down. STONE: And none of us are studio musicians. There's people that can come in and chart things out in 2 seconds, play by ear in such a way - lots and lots of people can do that. That's never been— It's certainly not ever been my [thing]..You're kind of trying to find the basic chords and then quickly find something that helps those chords. It was nerve wracking for me for sure, too… JEFF: It's probably one of my favorite things that we've ever done. And I think it's partly like that… it was largely like a dream. I was so lucky to get a sealed original pressing of Mirror Ball vinyl a few years ago. My local record store owner knows my taste in music and texted me right away when he bought one in an estate sale. I had never run over to that store so fast in my life. Luckily it is just around the corner.
