Poster Related: Would You Buy...

All the recent poster reissues (2XL, Aluminum, etc) got me thinking.  What if the band approved select artists to make posters for past shows that never got a poster the first time around?  Like 4/3/94 Atlanta or the shows in 2000 that got skipped like Columbus and Cincinnati.  Would you buy one?  To me it’s much more preferable to get a poster of a show that never had one in the past than a reprint money grab of a poster that was already released. Sort of a modern Missing Link series... and hopefully the artists could remain true to the style of posters from the particular year they are recreating. To me it’s a win-win.  We get posters that never got released and the artists/band make some money.

Is this a good idea?

For $35 it wouldn't be a big deal to buy one but I think shirts/posters/etc... should be sold at the shows.  Reissuing as a different format (2X or aluminum) is a little different.  But why not though.  More art the better.

    Yes!!
i always get posters for shows I go through to.
i was disappointed at 2 CRB shows last year that didn’t do posters for these shows. So I can relate. If they offered some up at a later time to make up for it I’d pay. 💰

Less for a show that didn't have something. More for a show show that did have something and they wanted to highlight it and do something special (like a foil edition, Glow in the dark, reprint with different colors).

I'd love to see a proper one for Boise 2000.  I think there was a promo poster for the last 4 days of that tour, but Boise itself never got a poster :(

If it was a show I went to, absolutely (although there are posters for all of them)
  • If they were screen printed.  I worry that modern techniques (I’m looking at you Mumford and tsang) would be used on them and mess with the feeling of old posters.  Long live screen printing.

Yes! This was my first show, and I'm bummed that I don't have anything that is specific to this show. The tour shirt I bought even says Milwaukee rather than East Troy.

Still screen prints. Different styles, but made the same.

I’d so much rather see Emek do a poster for Atlanta 94 instead of rehashing the Rome poster on a blanket or pillow.

Isn't this exactly what happened with the Missing Links in 2001?  Then the idea was thumbed down by Pearl Jam and quickly pulled, but not before a few escaped?  Yet one is still listed on Pearljam.com?    With all that said, I would definitely buy any poster created for the 2000 tour.

I guess I should say, if something was planned and then for some reason it got scrapped or just there was a flub in timing, then sure it would be cool if they did a print run now.   But going back and retro-fitting posters for events that happened feels a little weird, other than the post about tying it to Vault releases (which should be done quarterly! because I am getting old.)

Only if Brad Klausen gets to put out his Ticket stub style posters for Missoula '18 & Wrigley '18.  He did "Games" 1 & 2, 6 & 7.  I need 3,4,&5 in this series.

I say NO, but too many people get all hot and bothered and in search of the next Kong so most people would want them.

Haven't bought a 2xl nor an aluminum print and don't plan on it.

I’d be happy if I could get a throwback poster for Cinci and Columbus from 2000 to round out my poster collection for shows I’ve attended.

I only try to buy posters of shows I went to, and have no desire for my non-show posters. But I just don't see the point in making a poster years after the show. Even if I was at the show, I'd have no desire for that. The whole point is it is the poster for the show, revealed and sold at the venue, not years later.

I can think of at least one poster I really really want just for art's sake. It doesn't matter if I went... Actually, I have only bought a poster from a show I actually went to once; the others were ugly and wouldn't want to hang them (actually, the one I bought was also ugly, and I'll never hang that one either. Will likely sell it some day). So I wouldn't mind if they reprinted their very best and most popular at all, just as long as they are actual replicas (just with some indication on the back of it that it's a replica), and not "modernized" in some way. I would also like to see the prices of originals tank, TBH. The prices are out of control on the really sought after ones, and while I do understand the collector thing..... I'd just prefer that people not have to spend $800 for a concert poster/art poster that they want on their wall.

I agree on the prices. I mean, some posters from the 60s go for the same price as a Pearl Jam poster from a few years ago. It’s insane.
Ive accepted I’ll probably never complete my list of shows I’ve been too because of prices.
I honestly can’t justify spending more than $100 on a poster that isn’t even old. Which I why I have several gaps in my collection.

The ten club is missing a huge revenue opportunity by not bundling a poster sale at time of ticket sales. I get it, the limited wupply drives demand, but I think a ton of people would add the $40 at checkout to secure a poster, soght unseen to avoid the bullshit

I can just see posters in these forums screaming about PJ being "greedy" if 10C announces that they are producing posters from old shows that didn't have them. I don't think it's a good idea.

That said, I enjoy good posters, so I would consider it.
