IS AMAZING! I can't stop listening to it!!!

"Don't even think about reaching me, I won't be home"

The music and the lyrics...The sadness of it all is overwhelming. I love this song...

Footsteps has been one of my favorite PJ songs since I got the Jeremy single years back in 1992.

One of the best lines ever written:

"I got scratches all over my arms.
one for each day since I fell apart"

I get chills everytime I listen to it.
"i'm lost, I'm no guide, but I'm by your side"

I love times of trouble, but when eddie sings on footsteps, it adds a lot more to the song. His voice makes you feel the pain, and the harmonica...awesome.
"Tonight we're just gonna play you some good old American Rock and Roll." tom petty-7-15-05
  • but chris uses a harmonica too! :D

i think the "if somebody.." part really makes it for me.

footsteps is fuckin beautiful too though..
  • great thread

definitely a top 5 song of mine, i could not turn it off when hearing it on the Jeremy single back in the day.

so powerful, it always felt to me, that it was sung in an empty house in the country....but that is just me.

to this day, it is gut wrenching to hear.....love it but it's a rough listen for me.

Wow. This is the pearl jam song that started the whole experience for me. So emotional. So wonderful. Words cannot describe it. "

Footsteps is a very moving song, pun intended. I'm really glad it was part of Lost Dogs.
  • And when you listen to it as part of the Mamassian trilogy, it's even more beautiful. The initial betrayed confusion, the unstoppable anger...

    ...the inevitable remorse.

But I also love Times of Trouble, because it captures the loss of Andy Wood better than SH2H or Reach Down for me. I just love the 3rd chorus
    'I saw you singin
    Swingin your mother's sword
    I know you're playin
    Sometimes the rules get hard
But if somebody left you out on a ledge
If somebody pushed you over the edge
If somebody loved you and left you for dead
You gotta hold on to your time and break
    Thru these times of
    (Dun dun dun dun)
    Trouble'
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

I think the song is better without the harmonica. Maybe its just because I was used to it without it for so long.

Just picture a bunch of losers in the summer of 93 packed into a Jeep Wagoneer driving down to Cape Cod singing this song at the top of our lungs... ah, those were the days.

Man, I'm going to be 29 tomorrow....... I'm fucking OLD!!
