Poll--The Weakest Link: The Cars 'Heartbeat City' Round 1

Well, in honor of The Car's Ric Ocasek passing we will have an extra episode of weakest link.

We will play to determine the GREATEST song on The Cars' album Heartbeat City

For anyone new to the game:
You are going to pick the song that you think is the "Weakest Link" after 3 days I remove the three (3) songs with the most votes.
We will then move on to Round 2. - Remember you are voting to eliminate songs from contention.

Lets have fun with this. Remember debating and discussing why your right and others are wrong is always fun.

    Why Can't I Have You
Heartbeat City is the fifth studio album by the Cars. It was released on March 13, 1984, by Elektra Records. The band produced the album along with Robert John "Mutt" Lange.

A lot of hits on this album I remember seeing the videos as a kid.
  • Heartbeat City
All ages website, or I would share openly why Drive wins for me, regardless of how much I do or do not like the song.

I remember being surprised at how many songs Ben Orr sang....before videos I just assumed Ric sang everything.

It's not something most of us listen to.  I remember the hits from the MTV days but not my cup o tea for music choices.

It's not in the upper level of a superclassic album.

I've never listened to it. Might have heard a song and two. And watched that great video with NIN.

Every Cars album is a superclassic. OK, so I'm biased.

Still, you heard this album basically everywhere you went in 1984-1985. Every pop/rock radio station had the singles on in heavy rotation. MTV had the videos on in heavy rotation. And working with Mutt Lange changed their sound quite a bit to make this album stand out from their first four albums.

Their debut will always be my personal favorite, but this record can easily get in the ring with it. Candy-O, Panorama and Shake It Up are great and all, but they're inessential if you're not a Cars fan. The Cars and Heartbeat City, however, are essential to anyone's record collection who drew breath in the 1980s. Perhaps not in Sweden, I guess. That's too bad.

Calling bullshit. You had to actively try to avoid (meaning basically sitting alone in your house in the dark) "Drive," "Magic," "You Might Think," "Hello Again," et al. if you were alive in the mid-eighties.

I did actively avoid most of the mid to late 80’s radio filler.

I had older brothers influencing me, so it was The Who, Zep, Floyd & the Stones for me.

Oh goodie!!! A new music poll. 🤗

    RIP Ric Ocasek.

I'm more familiar with their first albums. New Wave music. If what @dankind says is true,  & why wouldn't it be 🤔, I should recognize the songs when I listen to the album.

Me too. Just know the three hits from their videos.

I think I just missed out on being a fan of this band... just a tad too young to get into them at the time.

For what it's worth, since The Cars eventually got into the Rock Hall that opens the door for a band like Weezer (eventually).

Terrible song! And that stupid Def Leppardish vocal intro at the beginning. Fuck Mutt Lange! The first few Cars albums are where it's at!
