I am an Apple fanboy. I have an iPhone 8 Plus and it still works great. I want quick and easy and virus free (pornhub). Never had any problems with Apple and all I do is look at the internet, txt and a few other things. Don’t want to be a brain surgeon to use my phone.

The watch is is the best thing ever. I love the synchronized feature with my phone. The health aspect. I just love so much about my watch.

Have Apple TV and an iPad and a Mac. Will never own PC or any other type of phone. Just don’t see the reason because Apple works so well for me. Looking at an iPhone 11 max. It’s time. And a new watch. I have the series two and have beat the shit out of it. Still works great but might as well upgrade.

    I love Apple.
“The preceding was a paid political announcement by Apple Inc.”

less and less people are upgrading like they use to.... I keep mine in an otter box, no damage...just not so great battery. Its weird too, some days its a beast...some days it dies pretty quick
Mine does the same thing.  I started paying more attention to the diagnostics, screen time, etc and noticed when I look at instagram, that seems to hog up resources a lot and drain the battery more than any other app.  Weird how 20 minutes of instagram can run down the battery as much as an hour of Youtube or GPS.

My SE works great, won't trade up unless I have to. may need to get a new batter but in at some point  Also hate the size phones are getting. I don't need to carry and Ipad around all day, which is basically the direction they are heading.

I am so with you on this!
Your SE should be good for roughly another 2-3 years. They're dropping support for the 5s and 6 this month, so I figure the 6s and SE (and maybe 7) will be next year.  Phones should operate well enough for another year or two beyond the support date.  That's when you start to get into apps not working, other functions going wonky, etc.

I don't think it will stop working completely.  It just won't get any more of the iOS updates.  My iPad that I got like 7 years ago stopped getting the iOS updates a year ago but it still functions OK.  Although there may be certain apps that won't work as well without the iOS updates.

Talking, texting, camera, all the basics, you'll be fine.  Like Indiff said, they'll stop supporting iOS which will eventually lead into not being able to upgrade apps, or some features of apps not being available or working correctly, etc. It then just gets to a point where you get annoyed enough with all that to upgrade.
It's also annoying how Apple just forces this when the equipment is still capable of handling most functions of the OS.  For instance, the 5s and 6 losing support this year, when they have most of the same internals as the 6s & SE, which likely won't lose support for another year or two.  There is no reason they couldn't continue supporting the 5s & 6 until the 6s & SE go down with them.  All 4 of them still operate on iOS 12.4.1.

I'm never first in line for new tech, which as someone in software development goes against the norm. I like to wait a bit so that all the initial bugs are worked out. As a developer of web apps, I just wish all the browsers would conform to the same W3 standards. It's a pain in the ass to have special cases for each browser.

I usually wait 2-3 years to "upgrade".  I have the iPhone X and it's still running as good as it did out of the box.  Don't see the 11 being much better than it, so I'll wait for next year.

Yeah I have the X as well and it has been solid.  I see no issues getting at least another year or more out of it.

For $1000 how long do you think a phone should last?

As long as you want to use it for.  It's already been 2 years and I'll keep it at least another year if not more as long as I don't destroy it accidentally.

It seems very few people ever buy their phones outright and if they do, they hold tremendous resale value.  Even old iPhones that are beat to hell still sell for a good amount.
So even IF you own it, you're likely going to trade it in or sell it and use that money towards an upgrade.  Even IF you own it, you're still kind of "renting/leasing" it.

  • Is anyone even remotely interested in a new Iphone?

For $1000 I sure as hell am not.

Thoughts or should we wait for the "release" later today?
Nope. iPhones are for idiots. Literally they were designed for the technologically stunted.

  • Call me what you want but I love the iPhone and would rather have a phone that is easy for me to use instead of having to spend time to learn my phone.
    Peace,Love and Pearl Jam.

I cannot justify spending so much for a phone. It's just a phone, a phone that will be old in 12 months time.
I pay $70 per month for my Galaxy S9 which is too much. Never again.

I hate comments like this.  If you prefer Android and Samsung and LG and all that, that's fine.  No need to call people idiots or stunted because they like a different phone & operating system than you do.
I have a degree in mathematics and computer science (far from and idiot or tech stunted) and I much prefer iPhone and iOS.  It's for people who don't want to deal with a bunch of bullshit, bugs, & bloat. It's for people who want operations to be done simply, intuitively, & consistently.  It's for people who want to work smart, not hard.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had 4 iPhones since the 1st one.... never brought one in for repair, never cracked a screen (otter box) no issues other than battery getting worse after 3 years or so
