When I talk about people around here mistaking their relationship with the bands they love, this gets to the heart of it. For female musicians, it can be exponentially worse.

It's a form of stalking, really, for both male and female artists but I can see why for females there would be added concern factor.  The simple rule of thumb to me is- if they do a meet and greet- great!  Otherwise, they're people I don't personally know so I have no right to bug them other than maybe writing a fan letter and hope I'm lucky enough to get a reply (but best to never expect one).
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

Not having read the article yet, there is a female Comics artist I like and when I meet her at ComiCon I make sure that I am respectful because I want her experience with me to be as pleasant as mine is with her.
