JAMES (The Band)

Any James fan here?

They are an incredible live act.  It amazes me how they never really broke in the U.S.     They are touring the U.S. as co-headliners with the Psychedelic Furs at the moment.

I really loved their pre-hiatus output. Been pretty meh on their post hiatus stuff.

Pretty much sums it up for me. Absolutely love the pre-hiatus stuff.

I think they do ok here in the US, depending on what counts as good. Last time they came through Boston on their own, they sold out 2 nights at a 1,000 capacity club. They don't come through often, though.

Such a great live band too, been a few years since I saw them, but Tim Booth is an entertaining frontman. Not as familiar with the post hiatus material but the pre hiatus is very solid. Love their collaboration with Sinead O’Connor, subtle but impressive.

Prob about 5 to 10 years back, an old friend of mine saw them in Boston I think. She's a Super fan and was pulled up on stage. Glad for her. Not sure I know any of the songs.

If you listened to the radio in the 90s, I’m sure you heard “Laid”. That was a pretty big hit here.

Laid is an insanely overlooked album from the 90s. I think it's one of the best of the decade!

Laid is such a great record! Still sounds great today.

James were on the bill at my first ever all day concert - Neil Young at Finsbury Park in 1993. Pearl Jam were the special guests, and James were on before them.

I also saw them later on that tour in a much smaller venue. When they played Five-O it was like an out of body experience.

Theres also this beautiful piece of poetry from the first verse of Low Low Low:

    I'm a member of an ape-like race
At the arsehole end of the twentieth century
This film's a thriller of the mind.
Will we destroy our homes, release ourselves from the weights of gravity
I'll be amazed if we survive.

After my nan passed in 89 we moved into her house, my uncle still lived there, I was 9 and he listened to James alot, made me mix tapes of their stuff, took me to my first ever gig which was a James show.. in many ways this band were the beginning of my love affair with music. I love pretty much everything up to and including whiplash. Hit and miss beyond that but still a special band for me.

Gold mother, Seven, laid, whiplash is a hell of a run of 4 records

Seeing James in Los Angeles this month.  They are co-headlining with Johnny Marr.
