Anyone know of any live versions with the original lyrics ("in direct conflict with their dreams" instead of "sidewalk, cigarettes, and scenes") exist?

    First time played live was right when the album was released so I don't think there is a live version with alternate lyrics

    YES. there is such a version. i think it was in 2000. i will find it and come back

    Detroit October 7 2000 "contradicting all their dreams"

    Missouri October 11 2000 "contradicting all they see"

    Albuquerque October 20 2000 "contradicting all their dreams"

    San Diego October 25 2000 "contradicting all their dreams"

    So just for October 2000, Eddie changed the lyrics. These are the only ones with contradicting that I know of.

    Call me crazy but I actually prefer the 2003-2006(?) version of in my tree. I wish Ed used the sky I scrape line but the whole intro with ed on guitar sets the vibe

    “The sky I Scrape” is such a great lyric, drives me crazy he rarely uses it these days.
