I played this song for a friend. Not a close friend, but a guy that I know and respect. It was after the song was over, with tears in his eyes, that he told me about how his parents died when he was about 10 years old. He and his brother saw the smoke and jumped out a window only to see the house engulfed in flames. They watched their parents burn. He had never heard Given to Fly, but these lyrics touched him so deeply that now when I hear it, it's like I feel his pain. Man, I fucking love music.
