Where do I start?
I listened to Ladies of the Canyon and I enjoyed it. Which other albums are good to start with?

Blue and Hejira are awesome.  Anything with Jaco Pastorius on fretless.

Thanks. I actually listened to Blue before I read your post. I thought it was good.

I've been considering getting into her as well.  I was at Brandi Carlile's show a few weeks ago and she told a pretty cool story about meeting her for the first time.
I wish I was a sacrifice, but somehow still lived on.

Joni is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time.
I would start at the beginning of her catalogue and make your way through. From folk to jazz, it's a great journey.

Joni is one cool lady.  I love her jazz leaning albums.  Excellent!

I don't listen to jazz but will give her jazz albums a listen.

Hejira and Don Juan's Reckless Daughter are the best examples. It's more jazz fusion than actual jazz, although she did collaborate with Charles Mingus on the album dedicated to him.
As mentioned above, Jaco features on Hejira, especially the title track.

There's a great DVD of her live called Shadows and Light.  Her backup band has Jaco, Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays.  It looks like the whole DVD is on YouTube.

Probably goes without saying but it’s just a fantastic song too that Court and Spark.

From what I've heard so far, I really love:
    Ladies of the Canyon
    Blue
Court and Spark (not as much as the two above)

Blue is a masterpiece. It's one of those albums where I can't find a fault in any of the tracks. It takes you on a painful journey, and you can't help but let out a deep breath when it's over.
