Is it sad that I fanboyed a little to see that Sea was reading a post I started. The little things in life.
Sea is generally a closer. Kat is a reader and responder. I have seen Sea respond to a thread maybe twice. If Sea is involved, it's generally because someone threw sand in the sandbox.
Thread integrity: I have never won a 10c contest, always put in for them (unless they were tix I could not use) but am always happy for the grand prize winner.
Speaking of, congrats on the JAA prize, Dyer! Saw that on Twitter.
Some posts might not have integrity, but they are on topic, except for the minor derailment about Burt Reynolds and Sally Field's romance, in which I admittedly participated in the name of maybe having a laugh with virtual friends.
I'll break it down: @ed243421 mentioned a gumball rally contest, which made me think of CannonballRun, which made me think of the "cannonball" scene in Caddyshack in which Carl Spackler and Ty Webb get "wasted" (also part of ed243421's contest idea). Fellow '80s screwball comedy fan @Hobbes picked up what I was putting down and posted a gif from Cannonball Run. (Or is that from the sequel?)
Anyway, it was then that we got off topic with some sadsack comment about Sally Field being the Daisy Buchanan to Burt Reynolds' Jay Gatsby -- to which I replied with a poor man's Groucho-style one liner. If that's all it takes to get a “Topic Integrity please” reprimand these days, then this forum is going to be quite dead or overrun with more absurd polls.
I’ve never had a conversation with as many people as those who participate in these forum threads that stick to a single topic. Have you?
So, back on topic: I thought that the old contests from the newsletters were cool, too. I also miss the recipes. I’ll try not to have anymore fun. Thanks.
The contest lacks any heart or creativity nowadays. Before it was all about doing things, I remember being in one in like 2007(?) where you were to make a gig poster.
What is the points of the contests now?
EDIT:
Maybe it was 2008. Uploaded this to my FB in 2008 atleast. Haha. Can understand why I didn't won.
Sorry I’m late but I really liked this poster too. It’s sad and awesome at the same time.
