I guess I shouldn't be surprised, coming from a state where you get a flag, some guns, and a bible when you buy a used truck and where people think that is "awesome."

    "Swing low, Alabama"
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

It’s gone well beyond discouraging and disappointing and is into the territory of horrifying and disturbing. You would think that Alabama had nowhere to go but up, but apparently that’s not the case.

Add “have an argument” to the list of things pregnant women are no longer allowed to do.

Nah, it’s not about control at all.

Of course not.  I can't imagine anyone thinking otherwise.

Yup, this story is sickening, and a major red flag. I mean, another major red flag. I wonder how many of those are needed before Americans truly start resisting?

Part of me wants to say that Alabama doesn't represent the rest of us.
That part of me is small and drowned out by the part that says, "Alabama represents us perfectly"

So what is the state’s argument?  That she caused the death of someone due to negligence, or as the result of another crime being committed by her?  I’m assuming that the shooting was determined to be self defense?
Also weird to me is that if someone shoots at someone in self defense and hits a bystander, the shooter is usually still liable for the death of the bystander.  I cannot keep up with Alabama...

Brought this up at work (in GA). 6 ladies and 2 men believed the expectant mother should not go without punishment. Found that odd.

This is why I think it's important to draw a legal distinction at what point in a pregnancy you're carrying a 'human', and to follow in Illinois' footsteps and declare that fetuses, fertilized eggs, embryos have no legal rights.

I’ve always believed the opposite. The person committing the crime is responsible for any deaths that occur, even if they didn’t have a gun. Assuming self defense in lethal force was justified.

Was taught at CHL class that the shooter is always responsible for the bullet that leaves their gun.  That is why it is important to be aware of what is behind your target and to be sure of your aim.  I’m sure the person committing the initial crime would maintain a level liability as well, but I’m not sure to what degree if an innocent bystander is hurt.
