a while back there was a debate about the holiness vs lonliness
i have to say that i was in the lonliness camp on that one.
ez street version is definitely holiness.
there are a few really great lyric changes in that version.
but the holiness is there and ed also changes it from vs to vs
to
and his holiness is cool
then later
and his holiness the fool (or is fooled)
and then the final one I think is
and his holiness is cruel
i absolutely love this song and cannot wait to hear what they do iwth it all tour long. bring on the bootlegs.

Amen to that.
This is one of those songs that I have made my own. It just expresses how I feel -- change the 'he's' and 'she's'. It takes on a meaning that fits how I feel. I love this song - no matter if I'm feeling melancholy or not. It's what Pearl Jam's music is all about.
I remember the debate between Holiness and Lonliness, and i had always thought it was lonliest til i read that. I listened REAL close a few times and now i'm really not so sure it's not 'holiness'.
I was lucky enough to hear them play this Grand Rapids on the VFC tour; it is my most played GR track on my iPod by far. Probably the most unexpected and pleasantely surprised song i've heard them play in my 8 concerts. I'm not going to any of the Canada shows but i hope to hell they play that for some of them and hook us up on the future tour.
