Has anyone caught a solo show recently? I just noticed he is in Vancouver next week with Les Claypool and Sean Lennon. I’m not overly familiar with either’s material but might take a flyer on this show.

Well thanks very much for that Dave. I know just a very few MMJ songs, mostly those which are played on PJ Radio and love that cover of “A Quick One While He’s Away”with Ed from Immagine in Cornice. We did hear a set from Bonaroo on Sirius last weekend which sounded really good.

He's doing almost all of his latest record Uniform Distortion...
a couple of songs from his other solo records:
    Eternally Even
Regions of Light & Sounds of God
Then one My Morning Jacket song.
We got Bermuda Highway in Detroit & I'm Amazed in Columbus
The Louisville show back in November was completely different,
we got 7 MMJ songs, 1 New Multitudes, 1 Nina Simone & 1 Tim Thomas covers.
    He's just INCREDIBLE live...
    definitely go if you can!!

Thanks again Dave he’s at a legendary spot in Vancouver, the Commodore Ballroom on June 25(you probably know this- PJ played there in May of 2000 just after the Bellingham show). I think it only seats 1500 or so.

As per Derbydave and BrainofJHA’s reviews above last nights show in Vancouver was awesome too. Thanks guys for your accurate reviews. We didn’t know the material well(well that’s on us of course) just recently been listening to Uniform Distortion but still a great night of music. Hey we didn’t know PJ very well outside of Ten in 2006 and look how that’s turned out. It’s cost me a bundle lol. Does anybody know if that’s the MMJ drummer?

    Glad you made it...
Jim's solo shows really are a lot of FUN!!
That is Jim's high school friend Dave Givan on the drums, he does kind of look like Patrick.

It almost feels like MMJ is a dead band, I'm not really thinking about them anymore... they had that Waterfalls album and I guess they do shows in the US sometimes... but they haven't been here, what I know, since what... 2011/2012?

Only 3 shows last year in the Dominican and only 4 this year in 2 cities. I definitely miss them.

I’ll be be at all 4 though so I can’t complain too much.

I checked their schedule last night and saw just the 4 shows. That’s awesome! I can why you’d want to be in attendance after seeing the JJ solo effort. Oh and seeing them cover “A Quick One While He’s Away” with Ed in Immagine  in Cornice.

RR was a recent addition and we still don’t have tix so 1 night may be all we can afford. Best buddy decided after the on sale that it would make a great 40th bday trip. Who am I to argue?

It rained the entire show but not heavy.  Crowd was small but it didn't seem to bother the band!

It almost feels like MMJ is a dead band, I'm not really thinking about them anymore... they had that Waterfalls album and I guess they do shows in the US sometimes... but they haven't been here, what I know, since what... 2011/2012?
I can't find the article, but read something recently about them firing the engine back up again. Recording and such. Hope they come roaring back after this hiatus.

I will say that they are quite a unit even without Jim. That Strand of Oaks record is phenomenal.

I saw the "Jacket Boys" on tour with Ray LaMontagne on his Ouroboros tour a few years & it was an INCREDIBLE show!!
Can't remember for sure, but I think Jim produced that album for Ray too!!
I've seen Carl's solo 3 times as well & he puts on a great show!

Seeing Carl and Tyler Ramsey in a few weeks (a week before RR). Never seen him solo so I’m excited.

    That is a GREAT duo...
saw them together here in Columbus back in February!
They are both on stage together for almost the entire show...
Carl & Tyler each do one song on their own,
Carl did a phenomenal version of Radiohead's Pyramid Song & Tyler did his 1000 Black Birds solo!
Let me know what you think after the show!!

YES. Carl still tours with him, too. That was a surprise last summer. Ray is super generous and lets him rip some crazy solos.

Tim of Strand of Oaks has been hinting at some possible shows with them backing him. That would be the shit.

And those Carl/Steelism shows knocked me out. I could go on and on. Put any of those dudes on a stage and I'm there.

As I posted above we had the pleasure of seeing Jim James last month in Vancouver. I've not seen MMJ as yet but I have The Waterfall and It Still Moves CD's. I'm wondering if anybody could suggest some live material or other favorite songs/albums that would be checking out. Do they do many cover songs?
