I am trying to bring this thread back. I am also a little confused with this song's meaning, but here's my shot at it.

I feel like there's a kid in a hallway and something's bad going on behind a door.

Could be someone is physicaly abusing to his mom?

Doesn't matter what's happening exactly, but the kid is tempted to open the door to see for himself and maybe help. The repetition is the kid reaching for the door knob, then pulling his hand back when he hears something inside that scares him. This happens over and over, making the hook for the song.

I feel like it's the parent in the bad situation, probably bad life, telling the story. She knows there's better things and more to life. It's her cry out at the end of the song.
