  • come on ppl. I know pearl jam has a few songs about this, I just can't think of them right now. I need to cause I'm going crazy a lil bit right now.
  • are the songs supposed to be from PJ?

Green Day - Time of your Life
This was played at a funeral i went to about 4 years ago for a guy who was 18 years old. Very sad
he who forgets will be destined to remember
  • It may not have any meaning to anyone else, but it does to me.

On Dec. 8, 2001 I lost a GOOD friend of mine called Boyd. He had gone to the doctor earlier that day to treat what he thought was the common flu. The doctor gave him a flu shot, and told him to go home and get rest...he would be fine in a day or two. That night, my friend died in his sleep, from pneumonia. He was 44 years YOUNG.

Whenever we went to the bar/tavern/pub...he would play 'Sympathy for the Devil' on the jukebox...and not just once. If he played 4 songs, he would play that song 2 times...if he played 2, he would play it twice. When he was still here, we would joke with him about it...I thought it especially funny, because if ANY jukebox had 'Footsteps' I might be that same way.

On the way to his funeral, I was by myself, and I was flipping through the radio stations since my tape deck was broken (I probably would have had Pearl Jam in)...and on the classic rock station (94.7 FM-WCSX Detroit) was Boyd's favorite song...'Sympathy for the Devil'. I almost lost it.

December 8th should be removed from the calendar as far as I'm concerned.

    12/8/80--John Lennon
    12/8/01--Boyd Baltrip
    12/8/04--'Dimebag' Darrell

  • thank you for sharing. Some one I knew just died in a car crash a few days ago. He was like the 6th person under 30 years of age that I knew who died since 2000. It's a bit too much for me at the moment, although I wasn't even close with that person. Thanks again and take care.
  • I'm deeply sorry for your loss, i can't understand how difficult that this must be for you. A few PJ songs that touch upon similar subjects, could be:

Light Years- the whole lyrics to that are just painfully sad..

Of he goes: "..now he's gone and we're laughing, like we always did my same old, same old friend.."

Sad: Again you may be able to relate to the lyrics throughout this song.. "..eleven nights he laid in bed, hoping that dreams could bring her back...it's sad...and his lonliness is proof it's sad, he will always love you...it's sad.." and, "..If just on wish could bring her back-it's sent.."

    Last Kiss..

Anyway, i hope they're the sort of songs you are after. Again, i'm very sorry for your losses, i hope you're getting by as well as possible.

Wow. That's a bit unsettling to say the least.

What about light years or long road?

Other PJ songs on death are sad (letter to the dead) and jeff ament's (Otherside)

Other than that I like the band four squirrels alot... the lead singer died in a plane crash.. their albulm example is really good and has a few songs about this topic.

Man of the Hour is another good one...

    Sorry to hear about this.

    Here's my perscription:

For you... I definetly suggest three doses of Present Tense and one dose of Low Light... maybe even throw in some Smile.

Try listening to more upbeat songs with upbeat words to get yourself out of this funk.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss...but I hope Dr. saveuplife's prescription works...even if only a little bit.

My father died when I was 10 years old, a week after my grandfather died and half a year later my grandmother died. Being that young it completely crushed my entire world, and the only comfort I could find was music.

My best 'comforting track' was by far alice in chains - nutshell
Besides that I recomend a danish band (unknown outside denmark I think) called Kashmir. Their new album 'Zitilites' will help you cry out your sorrows.

    Good luck and best wishes

Jeremy - about a highschool kid that shoots himself in front of his class
Last Kiss - about the love of someone's life dying in his arms after a car crash.
ghost track on Lost Dogs - about the death of lead singer of Alice in Chains. (it's about 3 minutes after Bee Girl)
Other Side - about what it's like to be living while your other half is gone.

and those are all the songs of PJ I know that deal with death, others might too, or they might just be about separation. Hope you feel better soon.
  • Blowin in the Wind..Bob Dylan
It doesnt hurt.... when I bleed

  • Maybe I'm way off here but another PJ song that would suit
    is Release.
